True...if they get Ohtani and Felix comes back to 2/3rds of what he once was, they're a damn good team.

surprised more teams weren't in on him. Salary isn't bad and he is solid defensively and causes havoc on the bases. I would have liked to see him bothering pitchers with Trout and Upton at the plate.

sounds right, but Bill James couldn't find actual impact from that 30 years ago and I'm not sure any study ever has (though I'd be interested to hear).

my takeaway is that the Mariners (and the Reds and the Nationals) should deep dive the 'fast-men-on-first stats' of their main hitters, with the veterans having a decent sample size. then supplement it anecdotally - ask the outliers how they feel, honestly, about many AB with Gordon on first. then go from there.

he's probably a modest boost for some hitters and a modest negative for others. but if there is enough statistically significant data beyond margin of error, might as well give yourself the best chance....
