  • Real baseball- Darvish or Arrietta?

If you are the Cubs who would you rather have?

  • #2
It surprises me they are the same age. I was going to say Darvish simply because he seems to have more in the tank and a longer track record of succes, whereas Arrieta seems to be in decline. But Darvish has more miles on his arm, and may also be in decline. I'd still go with Darvish, but looking at them both, it is closer than I assumed it would be.

      I'd think Darvish.
What's the argument for Arrieta over Darvish?

Arrieta put up one of the greatest seasons of all-time and didn't melt in the post-season.

Fair points, Arrieta clearly had the higher peak, but seems unlikely to repeat that so I'm not sure how relevant it will be in decision making. Careful on "post-season", Darvish was dominant against ARI and CHC in the post season, he "melted" in the world series due to tipping his pitches which seems fixable.

Perhaps it is closer than I first thought though.

Darvish but they're not going to be the same price. And Arrieta's second half was really good so I don't think he's completely washed up. I'd be happy with either one, but since I don't care how much they spend, Darvish.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Yep. And I have seen speculation that Darvish goes 6 years $160M vs Arrieta 4 years $100M.

Cubs gotta be careful of how they spend that Harper money.

Wow, in that case I'd definitely take Jake. Unless Darvish increases their chances of landing Otani.
