  • 2K18: Ronald Acuna

The Braves CF of the future is suddenly the MVP candidate of the now. There is no other way to describe his utter domination of AAA at age 19. Well, at least until his AFL numbers are taken into account. Those are merely excellent.

He has no obstacles for playing time. The Braves look to be well served by building a team around, much as the Angels have failed to do around Mike Trout. His only hurdle is himself. The really frightening thing is watching his SLG rise while his K% plunged as he went up the minor league ladder. What did this kid figure out last spring?

On the assumption he is a starting OF from opening day, what is Acuna's projection? I'll get his MLER tomorrow. The engine I have been using is off line.

I'm a big fan & have been for a couple of years; I'm actually not in any leagues at this point that consider minor leaguers so I'm following just for the fun of it - looks like he's got a great future. ROY could be quite a battle between Otani & him. Having said that, for this year - boy it's tough to forecast but sure, I'll go out on a limb - .290-16-70-20 (he had some fairly high CS numbers last year, I'd be surprised if he's given free reign on the basepaths, esp. until he proves himself a bit more).
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I think he's ready from Day One, but the Braves are liable to quarantine him in AAA for a couple of months for service time reasons.

I traded his rights in June in what turned out to be an almost unnecessary deal - but not because I am not a believer. Most dominant teenager I can remember. can. not. miss.

12-team mixed 5x5 (ob, slug, r, rbi, sb) with standard inflation, how much would expect him to go for?
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

Context is important - those look like 10 team mixed numbers. For comparison sake Benintendi earned $22 in 15 mixed, Enciarte earned $20 and Pillar $6.

12 team mixed, which was specified. I'm using the numbers from Fangraphs dollar value generator. Unfortunately it has a habit of resetting itself periodically, so these are base 5x5.

he may be overvalued fantasy-wise for up to 5 years and still have a stellar career

It would depend on if I was trying to compete for this year or rebuilding. In a mixed competing $20. Rebuilding $25.

Good to know, thanks. Kris Bryant went for $26 (by far the highest rookie bid in our league history, I bid 25) but I'll be surprised if he goes that high.

Agreed, since there is a consensus that he will start in AAA regardless of his camp stats. Over $20 for 2/3 of a season is still a lot.

Ryan Braun was $30 in his rookie season for us, NL only. In NL only keeper league I would expect somewhere around $30. At least I would, but I already own him with an amateur pick last year....mwahaha.

I picked him up in a trade this past season and have him at$15. on a rookie contract that won't begin aging until he is put onto my active roster--sweet! Folks have since tried getting me to "throw him in" to deals. I normally don't take teenagers, but this kid has "special" all over him and he faces no real competition on the Braves.
                              Bearin' up!
