  • New MLB HR record

New record set tonite for most cumulative HRs in MLB in a season (5694 and counting). So much for my theory that the HR surge of 2015-16 was mostly random variation

Also contributing to the record number of pitchers with blisters this year. Marcus Stroman was particularly vocal about it ...

“I’ve never had a blister ever in my life. Nothing even remotely close to having a blister. It’s crazy. It’s extremely frustrating. I feel like it’s an epidemic that’s happened across the big leagues now. A bunch of pitchers getting blisters. Guys who have never had blisters before. For MLB to turn their back to it, I think that’s kind of crazy. I have no theory. But, obviously, it’s not a coincidence that it’s happening to so many guys all of a sudden. It’s not a coincidence.”
"The seams are different and the balls are a lot harder," Mets manager Terry Collins told USA Today. "I remember on Father’s Day, a ball got fouled back into the dugout and Dan Warthen came over and said, 'Feel this ball.’ It was as hard a ball as I’ve ever felt. And with these seams different, you’re seeing guys getting more blisters."
Having said that, it does seem that teams are a lot more willing to let guys go up there & swing for the fences lately (Joey Gallo being the poster boy)
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I'm sure it is a combination of things, but there seems to be a lot of evidence that the ball is different this year--tighter and harder.

                  or
Lots of K's and Lots of HR

                  They choice HR's

Also the Top end isn't High - over 40 Hr crowd
it is the Over 10 HR crowd that has swelled

yeah, I guess the idea is that Joey Gallo & Justin Bour now hit them 490 instead of 450, but Didi Gregorius and even Andrelton Simmons hit some of them 350 instead of 310.

That is the problem and the reason they will eventually have to admit Bands and Clemens.
