5x5 mixed keeper - max 3 year contracts, 15% inflation (always rounds up to the next dollar):

A guy who is dumping early has offered me:

    Tulowitzki: 1/$48
    Francisco Cordero: 1/$10
    Garza: 1/$20

    He wants:

    Desmond: 2/$2
    Chris Young: 2/$2
    Justin Smoak (unsalaried)

He can basically keep Smoak unsalaried as long as he wishes, then will have him for three years at $5, $6 and $7 when he activates him.

I suspect that part of why he's doing this is that I've told him under *no* conditions would I trade him Justin Smoak. I have a decent shot at the championship this year, and this might put me in the driver's seat.

The offer is on the Web site...all I have do do is hit "Accept."

Someone give me even the slightest thought as to why I shouldn't do this. This is an "unbalanced" trade due to Tulo's salary, and will be the only one I can do all year.

Is that Chris Young the pitcher or hitter? If it is the pitcher, accept now. If it is the hitter, boy, flags fly forever, but that seems to be a painful amount of long term value to give in your system. I'd still probably do it, but I can see your reluctance.

Way too much if that's Young the hitter. Smoak/CY could outhit Tulo. What's the impact on your lineup? If you're sliding Hosmer and Torres in as replacements for Smoak/CY while replacing Asdrubal Cabrera with Tulo, it's closer. But I'd still wonder if you could get more from someone else. I know Garza looks real but I still worry about him when the wind starts blowing out, and Cordero isn't a lockdown closer even though he's been good so far this year.

Yeah, if it is Young the hitter, whether you should accept or not is dependent on your belief in Garza and Cordero. Garza's FB numbers could regress to career norms, which would be bad in the Chicago summer, but so far this year, he's not only dominated iwth the Ks, he's kept the ball on the ground big time, so if he can keep that up, that bodes well for him not being hurt by the long ball. I also believe in Cordero enough that I think he keeps the job all year and is solid at it.

Of course, again, this is moot if it is Young the pitcher. Then it is a no brainer accept.

          Apologies.

It was Young the hitter. I accepted. Again...the max contract is three years...so he has 1-3/4 years of Young left.

I should have added that I also have Freeman and Anthony Rizzo as reserves, and Ryan Howard and Adrian Gonzalez manning 1B at the moment.
