With Otani headed stateside in the next couple of years, Green being drafted soon and guys like Bethancourt trying to become available by pitching and playing a position I'm thinking it's about time we (or leagues in general) find a way to accommodate these players so that their maximum value can be realized in fantasy sports.

Has anyone started thinking or even actually put rules in place to deal with this in your leagues?

I'd be interested as an Otani owner, to see where sentiment is leaning and what, if any, ideas are being put forth to handle these players.

To be honest, I'm not interested in--use him only as a hitter or a pitcher resolutions.

    Thanks.

Easy solution presents itself... as swingman. Tout allows use as hitter OR pitcher. That position could easily be "both" if applicable.

Otani - was picked in our reserve draft yesterday - our rule is>

When /if he comes over to AL ( we are an AL only league ) The person who owns him:

      1. Doesn't have to declare if he is a hitter or Pitcher UNTIL His CLOCK STARTS IN ML.
      2. Someone else could have drafted him _ he would be the opposite of Owner A.

So Basically - we treat him as 2 players.

John Montgomery Ward Rule - in Vintage drafting. Easy Enough.

I think he should have dual eligibility, and you start him daily/weekly at whichever position you want. No different than buying Jose Rodriguez as 3B/OF.

        Ottawa Triple Eh's | P.I.M.P.S. | 14 team keep forever
        Champions 16,21 | Runner up 17,19-20

The FOS (retired) | MTARBL | 12 team AL 5x5
        Champions 01,05,17 | Runner up 13-15,20

So could you declare him as Both?

Have him in your lineup as a Pitcher And a Hitter.
          ESP in an AL league

          P ON Monday
          Dh - Tuesday - wed - Thursday - Friday - sunday
          P on Saturday

Not that I think they would ever use him like that.

BUt in your Weekly Line- up - COULD you have him as your DH
          And in a Pitcher Spot???

So he is a little Different then 3b/OF elgible. Because if I own him and could do both I might want to do this.

In a league with daily changes, yes.

In a league with weekly changes, you start him at P or DH for the week. Not both. Just like starting Jose Rodriguez at 3B OR OF for the week...not both.

However, Bumgarner's 2 HR today made me realize this dilemma exists today...except there is no option to use a pitcher as a hitter.

Does Otani pitch every 5 days and DH in-between? Just googled him and that appears to be the case.

We can use a position player as a pitcher once they pitch 5 games and vice versa

I PLAYING DEVILS ADVOCATE HERE _ basing it off my league which has been playing 30 plus years.
I can already see the owner of his mind churning .

He would argue that in Jose case you get all his stats so it doesn't matter what position you play him - defense doesn't count. But if I own Otani and he has dual counting stats I want all his counting stats ( for the week - esp if he is equally great at both) IF I am willing to use up 2 slots.

That is why we treat him like 2 separate players - batting and Pitching.

I am curious if His ML team will use him as both - risking inj if he is a great Pitcher???

Of course I guess the real question for my league is our stats survice able to count stats if the same player is on 2 teams .

Your way will the stats service be able to put the same player in an offensive and pitching category?
