  • Which would you rather have?

Assume BA and RBI + R are equal. Which would you rather have?

    10 HR/20 SB or 20 HR/10 SB
    5 HR/20 SB or 20 HR/5 SB
    10 HR/30 SB or 30 HR/10 SB

    Does position matter?
    Is redraft different than keeper?

In general SBs are more scarce than HRs, so I think I'd choose the SB side in each scenario. Now that doesn't account for how much risk is baked into each projected stat... it may be that the SB number has a lower likelihood of coming true than the HR number.

For example, in my 10-team AL league, over the past 10 years the avg of 1st and 5th in SBs is 166 and 119. For HRs, those numbers are 266 and 210. The delta is about the same but given that SBs are lower, I'd say they are "more valuable" in a vacuum. Not counting how a HR also includes an RBI and R and some AVG to go with it...

      10 HR/20 SB or 20 HR/10 SB

I think I'd take the 10/20 guy. Theory being that the 20/10 guy is more likely to stop running.

      5 HR/20 SB or 20 HR/5 SB

I'd take the 20/5 guy. It's just a small chip-in. And even if their R+RBI should be the same, I'd feel a lot less worried about the R/RBI from the 20/5 guy.

      10 HR/30 SB or 30 HR/10 SB

Is there a 10/30 guy? If I'm getting 30 HR I think I'm less worried about the 30/10 guy becoming a 30/3 guy. So I lean towards 30/10.
