  • AL trade help -- keepers due this week

    12 team AL 5x5

I was offered Rougned Odor $13 (final year) for
Kelvin Herrera $10 (year 2), Marcus Stroman $7 (option), Andrelton Simmons $14 (who cares)

Would you do it? We can only keep 7. My keepers would be:

Mookie Betts $18 (2 yrs remaining)
    JD Martinez $20 (final)
    Tim Anderson $8 (year 2)
    Rougned Odor $13 (final)
    Edwin Diaz $11 (year 2)
Danny Salazar $5 (option; wouldn't extend)
    Mark Trumbo $22 (year 2)

If I don't do the deal, I probably keep Herrera instead of Odor.

    Thanks!!

I'd keep Herrera. He's a 4 category closer with his K's. You have a fair amount of offense on your keeper list already. But not knowing how your league values closers or the inflation rate, there may be something I'm not seeing.

I'm in the Herrera camp as well in an AL only.
In my only, established closers command a salary premium.
Herrera has the look & feel of a top 7 closer to me.

Thanks for the input. In our league pitchers (SP or closers) rarely get a good return in trades. I got both Herrera and Diaz via FAAB last year. Better chance to land a closer than a top hitter via FAAB. And I worry that Herrera could become a setup guy somewhere if KC tears it down this year. So I'm thinking I'll do it given our league dynamics. But your feedback makes it a tough call!!!

In a non-OBP league, I'd take Odor. I really like Herrera, and am pretty confident he will stay in KC even during a tear down, but I'll take a power-speed 2B in a minute for a closer. You've already proven you can mine closers in waiting successfully.
I'm just here for the baseball.

I love Odor but I would stay with Herrera as well. I am not a huge fan of giving away multiple years of control for 1 year unless it puts me over the top.
