  • 2K17: AJ Reed

So with the Stros loading up, where is Reed going to play AAA?
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

I don't see a clear path to playing time for him, barring injury. Give him enough time to fully bake in the minors

I'm a litle surprised they haven't traded him or Tyler White.

Players with that much team control have value plus it's a position that has a high power bar ceiling.

Was a bit surprised Sickels dropped him to his #12 prospect in the Astros system with a B-/C+ grade.

Will he be up in Sep? Is he worth holding in an AL-only? His price is $1 this year and done.

I am pondering Reed's situation as well. I am sitting on him in a deep dynasty league which also has Dominic Smith floating on the waiver wire. Smith could be a slightly better short and long term fantasy option for me at this point (especially if the Mets can trade Duda this week), though he seems to have a bit less power potential than Reed.

Reed's power has returned this month and has BA and OBP have been decent if you discount his dreadful June. Still, it certainly feels that Houston is not viewing him for a significant role in the near future since he has not received a cup of coffee in the majors yet this year. I can see him being promoted in September to keep some of the regular players fresh, but I personally am not expecting more than 1-2 starts a week at that time unless his current hot streak continues into August. A trade sometime this week would likely change that scenario though.

I have Carter/Austin/Reed to fill my CI spot. I'm hoping Carter picks up some AB in OAK until Reed comes up or Austin returns. I have a 30 point lead so I can afford to be patient, but would love to drop one of them to FAAB the likes of Cahill, Maurer or Phelps. Team in sig.

I moved on a few weeks back - with the depth that the Astros have in front of him I don't see him getting much playing time unless he is traded.
