  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects ("End-Of-Season" Edition)

Regular season is over, so time to post another list. Lots of changes, more additions than I can remember ever there being for a new list. The list reflects modifications due to BA's League Top 20 lists and reports.

Same spiel as usual: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), and actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

Here's a link to the Google doc w the list:

Szapucki doesn't even make the list? Am I just being overly impressed by 50 innings worth of low-level dominance? Admittedly he's the sort of Cingrani/Lively pitcher that I overrate...
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

            Thanx for the response, mjl.

Szapucki did have a very impressive year and he was on at one point. But BA ranked him "only" at #8 in the Appy league, which means he probably wont even smell their top 100. I'm reluctant to put a pitcher that hasnt pitched above rookie ball on my list that is not ranked higher than that. His scouting rpt says he has a mid-90s fastball and indicates that his secondary pitches are promising but that he has a reliever's delivery and that he hurt his back late in the season and has had back issues before.

He's been hurt all year, and I havent heard much about Liriano lately. He's not on an AFL roster either. He would seem to be a candidate to get at least some playing time in Milwaukee next year but I dont know what they plan to do. He wasnt ranked very high even before he got hurt. He's in the 240-250 range on my list now.

Nice to see Isan Diaz make the list. He had a brutal start to the year but really came on strong in the last couple months. I've had my eye on him for some time now. Not surprised to see Trent Clark plummet - he had a brutal year in just about every respect. What happened to the batting eye?

As for Joey Gallo, crap. I didn't notice that he'd eclipsed the 130 AB threshold. He won't qualify in my league as a minor league keeper anymore. But what are your thoughts on the guy? Where would you put him if he still qualified? There was some back and forth in the 2k17 Gallo thread about giving up on him as a prospect. Are you in that camp, too?
                  Thanx for the response, ELD.

Isan Diaz was going to make the list anyway but BA's relatively bullish stance on him made me move him up even more. The K's are a bit of a concern but he has very good upside.

Gallo was around #12, I think when he dropped off. The K's probably always will be rather high but he actually improved his plate discipline a bit this year and still displayed good power. I guess Texas is just taking it slow w him. There's still a good bit of uncertainty w him but he's still a very attractive prospect to me. And he seems like your kind of guy (but proceed w caution).

BTW, despite the fact you were kidding, Vogelbach is still not far off the list. But I still dont particularly like the profile and the fact that BA left him off both their mid-season Mariners (Cubs?) top 10 and their League top 20's reinforces my opinion of him.

                    Great work, RHD!

I drafted Yadier Alvarez in the RJEL rookie draft after I read he was the top-rated International free agent in 2014. He blew hitters away in his stint at Rookie ball and A ball. Could we see Alvarez fast-tracked to the Dodgers next year?

Also, I picked up Gurriel for $18 in the same league. He ended with 130 ABs on the nose (boooooooo!), so he can only be kept as a major leaguer. Is he keepable at $18?

Thanks for posting. I traded dynasty keepers Giolito and Moncada en route to winning a championship. I did get Arcia back in the Moncada trade, and used him over Desmond down the stretch. Our 19th-22nd rounds are dynasty keepers. I will draft someone from this list as a trade chip (Arcia, Trumbo and Strasburg are my other dynasty keepers).

Since he hasnt pitched above Lo-A yet, I wouldnt expect Alvarez to get to MLB next year before Sept, altho it's always possible.

Gurriel is still a rookie according to MLB rules (<=130 ABs) and also AFAIK by roto standards in most leagues; that's why he's still on the list. Maybe your league is different. He is iffy as a keeper at $18. If I had him, I might go either way. In a deep league or one w high inflation, I probably would keep him. In a shallow league, I wouldnt. Whatever the case, the decider is whether you think you could get him back for the same price or less if you threw him back. In a typical league, I think he'd probably go for more than $18.

I faab'ed Gurriel for $21 in a 5x5 a.l. only and thinking I am going to protect him next spring (but a lot of information can come in the next 6 months, right?!). I guess we shall see. Hey Revo, I think at 131 at bats, a mlb'er loses his rookie status...

Agree on the MLB rookie status of >130 ABs, but RJEL uses 130 ABs on the nose.
