Early look at keepers

5x5 H2H league.

Keep 4 (rounds 1-4): Edwin, Hanley, Desmond, Longoria, Yellich, Lester, Kluber, Porcello, Verlander
Dynasty keepers (rounds 19-22): Strasburg, OrArcia, Trumbo (19th round pick is open)

Top 4 keepers tend to be hitting-heavy. I kept EE and Lester (with Gomez and Heyward) last year and took Kluber first overall. However, I have 4 stud starters (plus Strasburg) who are tempting.

For me, it starts with EE and Desmond. Why do you guys prefer Yellich? Lester/Kluber I understand.

I will offer up the extra guys for a swap of draft picks in the offseason as some of the lower teams are thin on keepers.

Yelich just keeps getting better and better. Desmond has been pretty mediocre since the AS Break and loses SS eligibility next year.

Fair points. He and Porcello were steals for me this year, so he doesn't owe me anything. I might be able to flip him to a believer in the offseason.

Yeah, one of those "quit while you're ahead" type players. If he ends up in a great hitting environment next year he might warrant a closer look, but he doesn't seem like a top-100 player to me.

Gotcha. His season puts him at #26 overall on Yahoo! right now. He's a 20-80-20 guy who can hit 0.280 in a good year. He was gold as a SS, not sure how valuable he will be as an OF. I will wait and see where he lands - I think he stays in Texas.

Nelson Cruz is available for Kluber or Lester. Should I do it, and for which one?

I'd probably do a deal like that, considering the limited amount of keepers that you have. And I'd keep Kluber, I think that lester will be fine without Ross, but he's such a headcase about throwing to 1st that he may develop another yip without his security blanket.

Good insight. I hadn't thought about that. Kluber has better 3 year avg numbers.

Thoughts on Orlando Arcia as a dynasty keeper? Is he better than a 20th round pick (229 overall)? I could throw him back and draft another player who would have dynasty keeper status.

It would be the 13th dynasty keeper drafted so most notable players are or will be gone.

I'd keep him. The Brewers have basically turned over SS to him, and he's good for 25 SB with little or no offensive improvement.

I've cooled on him. What size bench or minors do you have?
