  • Should I trade for one of these players?

I am a rebuilder in an NL only 10 team keeper league

I have been offered Stanton at a non keeper price by a contender so he can replace his production for Votto, also at a non keeper price

He has offered Kang who is having a down year at $4 in second year of 3 year contract or my choice of Corey Ray or Jose de Leon.

I don't see the value here unless I select Ray or De Leon. Of concern is I have to drop a minor leaguer or activate Alex Reyes before I have to in 4 weeks--he looks like he is up, but an injury or bad performance could send him down and I wouldn't have to burn a year of eligibility

Alternatively I could drop McMahon for Ray. My other minor leaguers are Meadows, Ramiel Tapia and Amed Rosario who I value more than McMahon. Also of relevance is I would have to trade off a high minor league pick before next year's draft as I would be at max for minor leaguers. I could also ask for Brendan Rogers who he has previously refused to move. He might be worth the trouble of re-jiggering my minor leaguers.

Finally I could counter and ask for Junior Guerra who is $5 but is injured There is nothing else on
his roster that he would trade that interests me. So I am really looking at Ray or Rogers unless there is something in Kang or De Leon I am missing. Door three is simply to pass.

    Looking for opinions

    Thanks in advance.

I am sorry, I read this several times and am not sure I have it right.

He is offering Stanton to you for Votto both at non-keeper prices as the front part of a two part deal? The second part is $4 Kang for Ray or De Leon?

If I have that correct, then no. I wouldn't do it.

I would counter with I will trade you Votto who is valuable this year for Stanton who could be done for the year (DL'd from last night) and De Leon who was having a nice year until he got lit up for 11 earned runs possibly delaying his call up.

I would not include a $4 Kang in an NL only. He may not be having a good year, but for 4 bucks you can take a chance that he figures it out.

I probably didn't lay it out clearly. He is offering me my choice of Kang or the minor leaguers to do the Stanton Votto swap

Well, Kang has that sexual assault case hanging over his head, and he could be playing for Mean Machine instead of the Pirates next year. No need to take on that risk.

It's almost a certainty that the Dodgers will load up their staff in the off-season, and who knows where that leaves De Leon. He could get bandied along like Urias this season, wasting another season of eligibility, so I'm not sure of his worth.

Junior Guerra is a 31 year old journeyman and I just don't trust him for next season.

Ah, that makes sense. I would do the swap and take Kang. A little risky but better than standing pat with the non-keeper Votto. Unless of course his competitor needs Votto and offers more.

I'd differ a bit, if you're not contending, and you're pretty sure that you can't move Votto for anything better, I'd try to deal for Rogers...if he won't do it, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Oh, and I wouldn't go near Kang...he's a mess at this point.

Stanton to the DL, so maybe your leverage went up.

The Pen pretty much reflects my thing. My target from this guy is Brendan Rogers. I offered him Votto and either Neil Walker or Parra for Kang (neither of those guys are keepers and Kang is a spec move or trade chit next spring), Ryan McMahon (would have to clear a spot as can only keep 5 minor leaguers) and Adam Conley or Tyler Anderson, both cheap- so helps him deal with in season cap and neither will make my list next year as he also needs a starter. If I don't make a trade, there is little hope I can move anyone as all three of the contenders face the in season cap. To sum, Rogers or bust..everyone else is not in my long term plans.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but if you're rebuilding this year and Stanton is at a non-keeper price...why are you trading for him at all? It doesn't sound like you're getting an asset just to take on his salary and you're giving up a real producer in Votto. Why not just trade Votto for prospects/keepers? Is there some salary matching or max roster salary issue? If so, you should be able to get more now since Stanton is done for the year in all likelihood.

Stanton is only I. The deal so the other team can dump salary as we have an in season cap. The trade is really Votto for futures.
