Koufax turned into a great pitcher but that was only the last 6 seasons. The first 6 were very mediocre. In fact the first 7 seasons he did not have an ERA under 3. While he pitched great last 6 seasons I don't think that qualifies him in the top 20.

I'm so sorry thought I was reading ESPN Top 100 Players of All Time. Perhaps I should have just said Koufax threw fireballs that melted bats.

if you adjust for Koufax's most fortunate-ever combo of pitcher's park + low-scoring environment, then that case could be made. Koufax 4-year peak has more oomph because far more IP, but Kershaw relative IP to peers is also relevant.

I heard stories of Koufax from my grandfather so he has a special place in my heart. You are probably right, but I'm comfortable with Koufax still being above him at the moment, especially since there will be argument about it in a couple of more years. I don't mind Sandy continuing to keep the title for a little while longer. Kershaw is the guy I will be telling my grandkids about.
