  • Wil Myers

I have him at $9, he's generating interest. Has one more year at $9 and then can be extended at $5 an additional year.

Am I wrong at wanting a kings ransom for him or is my Padre homerism clouding my judgment?

I traded him in the off season in a package that netted me Nola (B,$5). Myers (B, $14) is making me think I may have made a mistake. I just didn't think $14 in a NL-only league was a safe bet ... in hind sight that was a mistake. I agree - at that price you should get a NICE return.

I would ask for a nice return also. I think people tend to forget that he is only 25. Damn I was offered Myers at $15 for Wainwright $16 in the off-season and turned it down.

I don't think this year is an aberration; he was a studly prospect who took a few years to mature - pretty common story in baseball. I too would want a huge return.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I think many of us made the mistake of not trading for Wil When we could have.

If I remember right he had wrist issues and kinda sucked in 2014 and 2015.

He is 20B in our NL only 5x5. I too turned down the chance to own him early in the season.

It would take a lot (if I owned a $9 Wil Myers) for me to move him.

I traded Tanner Roark for him in my NL-only redraft league and while Roark has continued to perform well, Myers has more than made up for his loss for my offense. I would definitely seek much more than a guy like Roark if I were re-trading him at this point -- especially in a keeper league.

He has the pedigree and he's performing like a stud. There's no reason to expect any less.

Will he keep up the SB's though? That might take a little off of his trade return if people don't think he will continue to run as he has.

I don't see why he'd stop. He has 4 SBs in 10 games in July so is actually upping his pace. And I think given that the Padres will likely not be in contention for the post-season means that he'll be naturally inclined to focus on individual goals like a 30-30 season.

One thing that might help this thread is clarifying what a "king's ransom" entails.

You are primarily "going for it" this year, and you would not take Mike Trout for him, so it doesn't really seem like you are really serious about trading him.

It doesn't seem like it from your perspective because we don't agree on much when it comes to the evaluation of a player.

I've explained my theory which is one I got from a Forcaster years ago and use today.

My players value this year and every year forward on his contract in return.

Trout and Myers are pretty equal in production this year outside the difference in Avg. I don't see that changing this year

That advantage is offset, IMO, but the extra cap room I get having Myers over Trout--16 bucks at the deadline makes a big difference as in our league it's several elite expiring contracts. So to me it's Trout vs Myers AND say Todd Frazier (who is a $9 expiring contract in this league). That and we haven't even gotten into his keeper value over the next 2 years which Trout has none of.

So yes I'm serious about dealing him but No I'd never trade Myers at $9 on a first year contract for Trout on a $25 expiring contract.

I'd ask for Trout AND another excellent player. And it'd be a reasonable request.

                            I'm sure you'll disagree.

That's very interesting. Not unreasonable to bet that Myers keeps up the pace, but will he? If you are truly playing to win THIS year wouldn't you rather have Trout ROS? After you win, then you can bemoan the fact that you don't have Myers anymore
