  • When Dee Gordon Returns...

....does he start every game? The reason I bring this up is because Dietrich has played very well in his absence. I would have said Gordon returns as the starter over a month ago but Miami is playing decent enough baseball where they could contend as a wild-card. if the Marlins make the play-off my understanding from what I have read Gordon would not be eligible. Here is the article I read: http://thesportsquotient.com/mlb/201...rom-suspension

Gordon will be a utility player for the rest of 2016
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I this conjecture? If this is verified, that is big news.

I don't see a part time role...he's a gold glove winning batting champion who's going to come back fully rested for the last 2 months of the season. I really don't expect any drop in his play, other than to knock the rust off.

it is true that if they make the postseason, he will NOT be on the roster.
but I doubt they make it anyway.

I doubt this. The Marlins are going for it as evidenced by their quick-strike deal for Rodney, and Gordon is way too valuable (and well-paid) a player to shift around. If anything, Dietrich, who has MLB time at 2B, 3B and LF, should be the guy who shifts around.

Dietrich is getting on base at a .400 clip. steals arent nearly as important in real baseball and while he wont give what Gordon does with his glove, Gordon isnt the hitter Dietrich is. Unless Prado is gone, pay wont mean much for this season and because the Marlins are going for it and Gordon isnt post season eligible is another reason in Dietrichs favor. Dietrich will get more PAs in the final two months than Gordon.

Dietrich this year .302 AVG, .257 xBA after hitting - surprise! - .256 last year in 289 PA

if you think that tells you he's a .300 hitter and .400 OBP, good luck with that

Not gonna happen...clanky glove in MI = bad things for pitchers. Good glove in MI = good things for pitchers. Defense more important than bat... And BTW, Gordon is a legit .300 hitter...

Another thing to look at is his 50 mil contract extension. Doesn't seem like it would make sense to make him a utility player. I only brought this up because the article I read did make a case for this possibly. My baseball sense tells me Gordon plays 2B with Dietrich spelling him, Prado and maybe in the OF or 1B giving him 3-4 starts a week.

Maybe. Does the absence of his substance effect his play (either physically or mentally)?

I don't see why it would...maybe it improved his reflexes and eyesight, but it certainly didn't do anything for his musculature. I'm guessing that he took it to help with the wear and tear on his body over a long season...only a guess mind you. Base stealers get beat up pretty bad during the course of a season...but with only a couple of months to play, it shouldn't be an issue if my speculation is correct.

But we'll find out for sure in a few weeks...

Yeah, that is why I mentioned the mental side of it. If he thinks it helped him than it did.

I would add that if it helped his eyesight and reflexes that would have a great impact on his ability to get on base. Getting on then helps his sbs.

I wouldn't discount him if I owned him, but I might not pay full boat if I was trying to get him.

You do realize PEDs were involved in that correct? If you don't think they help, read some of the articles from recent Lenny Dykstra interviews....
