2011 first round pick Mike Mahtook was called up. He will likely play a lot of CF while Kiermaier is recovering. This was mentioned in the Kiermier thread, but Mahtook deserves some attention of his own. His cup of coffee could not have gone much better. He hit .295/.351/.619 in 115 PA with 9 HR and 4 SB. He was doing .333/.416/.487, 1 HR, 4 SB at AAA. That's him in a nutshell--decent-to-good hit tool, good speed, some power.
As with many minor league players, he strikes out too much, 22.7 K% at AAA, and walks too little, 6.8 BB%. He plays decent to solid defense, with th speed for CF and the arm for RF. TB's OF has Kiermaier SF on IR (broken hand), Souza, Brandon Guyer (age 30) and Desmond Jennings (age 29). Look for Mahtook to play a lot. At worst he should be a good OF4 with speed.
