  • NL Trade: Am I asking for too much

I posted my team after my draft 5x5 10 team league and most thought it was a team not going to compete but for some strange reason I'm in first by half point over two teams. a team contacted me stating they are building for next season. I need help on another bat and another starter. So I was thinking of offering him Alex Reyes $6, Jeffress $3 and another throw-in for Strasburg $36, McGee $20 and Ozuna $6 (dead contract. He also has on his team with dead contract or salary not at a keeper price Braun, Blackmon and Puig. Josh Harrison is at $17 but yr one on contract. I have included my roster below.

    Thoughts?

    C Ramos $8
    C Norris $10
    1B Belt $24
    3B Freese $1
    CI Reynolds $7
    2B Panik $14
    SS Story $10
    MI Suarez $19
    OF Fowler $18
    OF Taylor $6
    OF Polonco $12
    OF C Gonzalez $33
    OF Tomas $15
    UT Gyroko $1

    P Wainwright $18
    P Leake $5
    P Nelson$1
    P Familia $6
    P Jeffress $3
    P Teheran $14
    P Shield $13
    P Chatwood $1
    P Hudson $7

    Reserve

    Jose Reyes $9
    Warren $5
    Addision Reed $4
    Hansel Robles $1
    Jake Barrett $1
    Thorneburg $1

    DL
    Desclafani $12
    Knebel $8

    Minors
    Alex Reyes $6
    Brett Phillips OF $2
    Nottingham C $1

i dont think youre asking for too much. i can see him rejecting due to the uncertainty of Jeffress being the closer beyond next year (closer keepers high turnover and such) but not too much. I would want a proven major leagur bat if I am on the other side of that deal.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I don't do Only-leagues but it looks like you are asking for way too much. Heck I could see keeping Strasburg over Reyes.

I'm in the "wayyyyy to much" camp.
Put yourself on the other side of this trade and you are giving up the best 3 players and getting back a mid tier closer and a suspended prospect

I think it's too much, but I'd find it an acceptable start to negotiations.

Main risk on both is another drug suspension, and it'll be lengthy.
I'm just here for the baseball.

True, I had forgotten about Jeffress' previous suspension.
I guess we should ask, any chance your trading partner is a pot head? If so, the sympathy factor may work in your favor, for both guys.

I think you are asking for way too much, I'd look to get more than your package just for Strasburg in an NL-only

Thanks for the input. I don't disagree with anybody here but the the problem I'm wrestling with is the two best keepers on offense is Story yr 1 and Polanco signed for two additional years. Pitching would be Jeffress yr 2 and Familia signed through next season. Farm players are Reyes and Phillips. I don't feel that I'm blessed with a ton of players with good keeper value so moving one part to get another is tricky. I suppose I could make an offer to the other owner to feel him out on what he is willing to deal.

pitbull, it feels a little as if you're asking for more in the trade because Reyes represents more of your "future assets" than you'd like.
but bottom line, that's not the other owner's problem. to him, Reyes' value is the same regardless of your situation.....

Just to give an update. I didn't offer that deal. Owner is interested in Polanco who is $12 signed for two more years. I wrote him back and stated I will need Blackmon who has a dead contract and of course trying for Strasburg and another bat which he has dead contracts in Ozuno, Puig. Also might be willing to deal Harrison at $17 or Rendon at $20 but signed through next year if he doesn't want that contract. My team is in 1st but only by 2.5 points. My pitching has really pickup lately and made big gains in ERA 2nd and WHIP 2nd after being at the bottom. Wins is a category where I can pick up alot of points I'm currently tied for 7th but only 6 wins from 1st. We are now in the negotiating stage so now I wait for his reply but not official offer given yet.
