Odor will get 4 games and Bautista will get 2 games - book it

Bautista is a punk for that slide...it literally started 3 feet before 2nd base. He could have taken Odor's knee out, and there's no excuse for that kind of a play. Both should be suspended, but not for more than 5 games...

Is Odor safe to start this week? Assuming he'll probably appeal whatever he gets?

          Did you see that slide?

Bautista got what he deserved and was lucky to only get punched once. Love the way that Odor dealt with that punk and the best part was that slide caused the double play to be an automatic call.
yeah, I'm just glad that Odor figured out over the winter that slides like this one from last October aren't cool ... where exactly is he when he starts this slide???

If Bautista was lucky to only get punched once I guess Odor should have gotten the living shit kicked out of him back then.

It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

You are behind, that was already discussed above

I'd think so. It's not zero risk, but pretty low that he would not appeal, IMO

I'm behind, too, but my call (as strictly a matter of criminal law) is self defense all the way. True, Odor did shove Bautista, but instead of breaking off the encounter, Bautista moved into Odor. Bautista, in what can only be described as a very slow maneuver, used his left to measure Odor for a right. While Bautista was loading up the right, the much quicker Odor landed a Ruthian shot.

It looked obvious to me that Bautista was a rank amateur, and that Odor was the consummate pro. The Rangers list him as a cruiserweight, but he looks to me as little more than a welterweight with middleweight power.

Why would he appeal? It's pretty evident he is guilty and probably would like to get it over with. I think there is an extreme risk to start Odor this week.

Because many appeals work. Even if he just gets one less day of a suspension, that's worth a good chunk of change to him. Plus, it will give the Rangers time to plan for the suspension.

You make a good point. I'm debating whether to play Odor this week or put in Utley.

Odor may need some anger management:

Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor rocked Jose Bautista with a punch to the face Sunday after Bautista took a hard slide into second base, sparking a massive bench-clearing brawl in the eigh…

What's funny is he uses the same tactics then as against Bautista. Push the guy, wait for the guy to come at him, then swing for the fences.

I don't think Bautista should get anything. He was penalized for the slide in the form of an additional out at first, as per the rule. Odor shoved him, punched him and threw a second that missed. Bautista did nothing that warrants a suspension.

Bautista deserves to be suspended on general principle. He's a whiner, a jerk, and pretty much everyone in the league (other than the Jays and their fans) hate that SOB.

                              I don't think that's grounds for suspension.

I'm a Jays fan, but don't think I'm homering here.

During the last few years, he has matured. I remember a time when he used to complain to the umps every time a bad pitch got called. 2 years ago he stopped. It was refreshing, because his antics were just making him look like a douche.

I beg to differ. He intentionally went for a slide that's been banned by the league - that's intent to injure right there - and was clearly measuring up Odor to hit him. As Lucky adroitly noted, he's just an amateur and Odor by comparison was the pro. But Bautista was just as engaged in that fight as Odor was. Bautista shouldn't get off simply because he got his butt kicked in the fight.
