  • Would you trade V.Velasquez ($25) for Wil Myers ($30)

12 team, 5x5, NL only, OBP league. I've got 47.5 pitching points...but only 26 in hitting (73.5 total - 4th overall). He's got 52.5 hitting points, but only 25 in pitching (77.5 - third overall).

Draft inflation was insane, and I overbid on Velasquez, while waiting too long to jump into the mid-tier hitting pool. I'm first in ERA and WHIP, tied for third in saves, 4th in wins and 7th in Ks. In last night's FAAB, I picked up Nicolino, which I hope will help with wins. My staff is C.Martinez, J.Nelson, J.Hammel, K.Hendricks, Nicolino, A.J.Ramos, S.Casilla, A.Bailey, A.Bastardo, S.Kelly). My goal is to finish really high in ERA, WHIP and Saves, while finishing mid-pack in wins and strikeouts.

My corners right now are Duvall, Wilmer Flores, and Brett Wallace (yeah, I know). I also have Loney on my reserve roster (15 deep, unlimited moves - and I'll also get Victor Robles...while he'll get whomever I would cut). I have several players on the DL, which will come back to help (in varying degrees) at some point. Cody Asche & Andre Ethier are my DL'd hitters, and McCarthy & Ottavino are my DL'd pitchers...plus Giolito is waiting in the wings for me.

I've become a BIG Velasquez fan, but I have to make this trade, don't I?

I mean... I like the idea of trading VV. I don't see him topping 150 innings (he threw 88 last year as far as I can tell) and he's already at 30. Myers is a huge injury risk but he looks good right now (on a truly sad Padres offense, but maybe that makes him a good OBP play for you when he gets pitched around twice a game). Neither is a keeper at those prices. So I think I'd do it, but I hope you've shopped VV around and nobody will pay more.

I had not shopped him around...This was a trade offer than popped up from a very interested and highly motivated owner. I will send a few messages to the league.

          Agree 100%.

If you need hitting, you need hitting. Velasquez isn't a sure thing, either.

If he offered, I'd counter with the same base but an upgrade for you elsewhere. VV isn't likely going to pitch 200 IP this year so you'll need to sell at some point and his value may never be higher than right now. And the best time to sell is when you have an interested buyer.

Daren, you never posted an auction anatomy for this year. You're slipping...

You were there (except for the 42 cig breaks) - post one yourself!

At this point it's pretty late. But, I guess I can still do one...perhaps by this weekend.

Yeah, but I like to see other people discuss me, not talk about myself. I'm not a narcissist.

Velazquez at $25, Myers at $30? Is this the Weimar Republic League?
