  • Henry Owens

For those who follow the AL more closely, does Henry Owens have value? I know he was a prospect at one point. I was offered a $1 Owens in an AL-only 5x5 for Andrelton Simmons $14. Is Owens anything more than a speculative play? Does he have long-term value in BOS?

Owens was once considered a hot prospect, but his star has faded. He still flashes signs he could be a #4 if he ever improves his command, but he is inconsistent, and I wouldn't bet on him personally. His command struggles coupled with his sub-par fastball are not a recipe for major league success.

In AL only I think he has some value for sure. He is still only 23 and he was absolutely dealing in the minors before his call up. He's gotta figure out that transition to mlb hitters, but I don't see any reason why he could not be a decent starter this year. Not a top end guy, but he COULD certainly be a guy who is valuable in an AL only league.

I suppose the Sawx staff is poor enough--Bucholz, especially--that he could stick in the rotation when Eduardo Rodriguez comes back, in which case, he could have some value. He certainly has WW value, but I wouldn't trade a bird in the hand for him. Although, looking at Simmons numbers so far, I guess he isn't much of a bird.
