  • 2K17: Horrendous Offer Thread

This usually gets some traction around here...a good way to ridicule people at the least

Check out this gem I got today in a 16-tm redraft-
Crazy person gives: Gerardo Parra, Miguel Cabrera, Troy Tulowitzki and Tyler Glasnow
for: Aroldis Chapman, Stephen Strasburg, Mike Trout and Jung Ho Kang.

I sent him a note on the trade that went something like this: "M_______, I have received some pretty awful offers in my lifetime of playing fantasy baseball. This one is clearly in the top 5 of the worst offers I have ever gotten. I am saving the email of this offer to forward to you if you ever have a problem with any offer I ever make, any time, ever."

"Please explain why I would do this deal" is always fun....
"You know what's wrong with America? If I lovingly tongue a woman's nipple in a movie, it gets an "NC-17" rating, if I chop it off with a machete, it's an "R". That's what's wrong with America, man...."--Dennis Hopper

This would have been a good offer one year ago today.

In my NL only 5x5 keeper league I was offered Jake Thompson 5F and Antonio Bastardo 10W (non keeper) for my $6Y Familia (this year and next year) plus my $5A Darnell Sweeney.

Why would I trade a $6 closer for next year for Jake Thompson? And why would he think I would want to add something/anything by including Sweeney?

But they never respond. I had a debate with a fellow owner in our league's forum regarding my reluctance to deal Archer for 2 pieces of crap. He felt I should be dealing Archer to improve my team; I kept asking how his 'offer' would improve my team - either ROS or next year. He conveniently avoided responding to my query. And yes, I know Archer has been brutal, but I refuse to sell low.

I'll give one that explains why horrendous offers exist--sometimes they get accepted. the weak link owner in my long time 14 team mixed league just gave away Mark Trumbo for Aaron Blair and Danny Valencia. I'm competing with the new Trumbo owner, and I'm annoyed the trade happened, but what can you do. The weak link owner was still operating on pre-season prospect lists and hadn't realized just how much Blair has regressed this year.

one contender in our league offered the last-place team Addison Russell 5-S1, Jorge Soler 5-S1, his April 2017 1st-round pick, and his June 2017 pick for reserved Gerrit Cole 15-O (can be activated immediately), Yoenis Cespedes 40-S2, reserved Kyle Schwarber 5-S1, Stephen Drew 1-S2, and the dumper's April 2017 1st-round pick.

some context: Russell, Soler, and Schwarber can be 5-O in 2017 and then FA, or 10-L2 in 2017 with a non-penalty-worry option of 15-L1 in 2018.
the swap of April picks would mean the contender gets a 1-in-7 shot at the No. 1 pick in the April farm draft (all 7 non-money winners have same chance), while the dumper would pick 10th, 11th, or 12th depending on where the contender finishes this year.

and just as in Sour Masher's example, the deal got accepted. that said, the "winner" may have shot himself in the foot with the league for the next 10 years. the "sucker" is a very busy guy with 4 kids and active in his community - so busy that he called out "AJ Pollock for 20" as his intro bid in April. stunned silence around the room before we informed him he is out for the year. we all figured, at least he didn't bid 40. point being that he snookered a guy who is not able to stay up to speed on Soler in particular, imo.

UPDATE: geesh, karma already at work? first the guy getting Cole, just before the weekly deadline, forgot to activate him in time so he'd debut after July 28 instead. then that didn't matter as we realized that Soler was inactive so this made the trade unbalanced. all they had to do was not include throw-in Drew - which likely is what they'll do later today, but the deal won't be effective til July 28. haha

Too many letters and numbers for me to even understand your post!

You got L's and S's and O's everywhere!

                    David Ortiz (A, $21) for Carlos Gomez (B, $32) and Billy Butler (A, $10) in an 11 team, AL-only, 5x5, keeper league.

A few years ago in a mixed league that would have been a good trade. How fast (and far) Gomez has fallen ....

BTW - I was offered that deal in mid-May by the 10th place team. It took about 1 second to hit "Accept." He's now up to 8th, but wow, what a head scratcher.

trade deadline offer: $5A Brad Hand for $5A Adam Ottavino.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.
