Phillips hit .294 with 12 HR and 23 SB last year. He's not the shiny new toy Peraza is, but he has something left in the tank.

Peraza wasn't going to play full time over Phillips or Hamilton, so better to get him AB in AAA.

Well, to be fair, Peraza is kind of not that good. I'd say that's much more on him than it is on Brandon Phillips being better.

Not many people thought Dee Gordon was any good either when he was in LA. Then he gets a new team and becomes a first round fantasy draft pick. I think Peraza just needs to get his chance. The Reds wanted to give him the 2B job but Phillips refused to leave. Now he has to wait for Hamilton to get benched or traded.

I agree, but another half season at AAA isn't going to hurt, especially if he focuses on the hitting skills that will allow his speed to really play well. Sucks if you have him on your NL only team, but there's no reason for the Reds to carry two really fast guys who can't get on base.

In 122 AB for AAA, Peraza slashed .295/.341/.393 with a HR, 8 RBI, 6 SBs.
He also had an ugly 20/9 K/BB rate.

I dropped him last month for Trea Turner and will hold since i also have Prado and Story. I don't see much time for him at SS with Cozart's hot start. And Hamilton is expected back in a few days so Peraza would have to get hot immediately to avoid being sent back down. Although he could get you a few steals this week.

Looks like he's staying up for the time being, as the Reds sent down Drew Hayes as the corresponding transaction to activate Hamilton.

I am trying to determine if Peraza holds long-term value for keeper leagues...

I think he can be a valuable super-sub for now by getting starts at 2B, SS, and CF. Maybe Phillips finally does get traded closer to the deadline or Hamilton gets benched for sucking and he gets regular starts for the rest of the year. Since the Reds gave up so much to get him I'm assuming they consider him a big part of their rebuild so look for him to get a lot of leash in a lost year.

Delino Deshields probably looks at Hamilton and asks himself " Why can't i get a gig like that?" At this point it wouldn't surprise me to see Peraza get traded yet again.

the thought is Cozart gets moved and Peraza goes to ss. with cozats contract up adter 2017 and a reasonable contract the Reds may be able to get a middling prospect.

That would be a huge PR nightmare - they traded their all-star HR derby winning 3B for a guy who flopped and already got sent to the minors (Schebler), a middling prospect (Brandon Dixon), and supposedly the centerpiece of the trade (Peraza). One way or another they'll open up a spot for him.
