CBS FAAB Question

Our commish is having a tough time getting a definitive answer from CBS on this issue. Best to explain by giving an example:

A team can bid on Player A for $10 and release Player X. He also can bid on Player B for $7 and release the same Player X in case he is outbid on Player A. Because of league rules its possible that a team would want to bid $3 on Player A and if I don't win him, $7 on Player B.

Our question is how does CBS assign players - is it by bid amount even though the order the team lists them is the 2nd way above or is it by some other method? One guy at CBS told the commish it goes by the time the bid was entered. And a related question is can we do something to change the sequence so the computer takes them in a certain order regardless of the bid amount.

the higher amounts go first on CBS. You cannot put the $3 bid above the $7 bid.

There's no way around this? In our league if a player already has a price attached to him because he was owned previously, we must bid at least that same price. So there are occasions when I would want to bid a lesser amount on my most desired guy because the 2nd guy is locked into a price. Any way the commish can change this order or sequencing?

I don't believe so.

Why not just bid normally on the player with the existing salary, then simply add the winning bid to his prior amount and deduct the FAAB money?

Let's say this was last year and somebody releases a $40 Ellsbury and another team wants him. We insist you bid $40 to get him. I guess we could allow a smaller bid but change it to $40 for salary cap purposes and to make sure nobody gets a real cheap keeper in that situation. We thought of that but then everybody started questioning if the FAAB budget needed to be reduced by $40 or not.

So if you must bid at least his prior salary, and if CBS can't accommodate this particular FAAB construct, if you allow zero bids then a zero bid would be equal to the player's existing salary, and just scale upwards from there (in Ellsbury's case, a $1 bid would = $41, etc.). You then deduct the full player salary from the team's FAAB budget.

Maybe not the most ideal way, but it gets to what you want to accomplish.

That's fine with the extreme Ellsbury example but there are a whole bunch of $1 - $10 guys that have been released. It will be very confusing adding to their small prices. What would eliminate all this stuff would be if we went to a waiver system but I can't even start trying to get that put in this league.

or just go to a format that allows you to bid any amount on a released player but he retains his highest salary for cap and keeper purposes.

This is exactly the problem we were discussing preseason and everyone asked why should CBS make a change for just a couple people. We'll apparently "a couple" just went up to a few.

I'll answer Hammer for you, he's still at CBS because it is still the best overall option, but is it right for the best not to care about improvement or customer satisfaction? Especially when the fix is as simple as allowing you to prioritize your bids in order, just like CBS does for football, as opposed to FAAB priority being strictly dictated by bid amount. If I want my $1 bid for Player A to take precedence over my $3 bid for Player B, why can't I just rank them #1 and #2 in priority? Try to award me Player A first, if I fail then try to award me Player B. As I said before, several people here have contacted CBS requesting it, I'm sure there are people outside of RJ who have asked for it, and everyone who uses FAAB would benefit from it, whether they realize it or not.

We're using OnRoto for our Roto500 league and they are extremely customer friendly when it comes to customization for league setup, even if just one league needs a particular feature, and their FAAB system seems to work just right as far as prioritizing, so it is possible, but, and I hate to criticize because they are running our league for free, they are just not as user friendly on a daily basis for a league's owners. There's just no competition when it comes to CBS's service, accessibility, and feel from an owner's perspective. Also, we are having similar issues at OnRoto as mike9289 regarding FAAB bids for players with previously established salaries.

This has been gone over more than once but I will try to answer again. When you run a million leagues as CBS does, there are a lot of changes that need to be made. When software changes are considered, there's the financial aspect of it, the affect itll have on other functionality and the priority of it. I dont know where this ranks in those 3 aspects but its silly to say CBS doesnt care. What may seem simple to change often isnt from a software perspective. Have you called the contact number and asked them? If not, perhaps you can get clarity for this issue.
