Auction still more than 12 hours away, but here's my game plan:
As seen in another thread, I protected the most units in our league - 164, for only 8 players.
I need 15 for 96 tomorrow.
But I'm likely to make this a lot simpler: having spent 81 on Kershaw/Greinke/Rubby plus Ziegler/Hoover, I can add four 1-unit pitchers in the end game and still walk out with a solid pitching staff.
So need 11 for 92.
But let's say I'm willing to take three 1-unit hitters, too.
I'd need 8 for 89. now I have some buying room.
and I like the way the freezes played out, in this sense: there is a crazy-deep OF availability at the top that includes 9 of the top 12 rated OFs (and I froze two of the three taken off the board - McCutchen 37 and Kemp 26). Harper, Stanton, Marte, Cespedes, Heyward, CarGo, Revere, Parra - even DLd Pollock. all will go in the stratosphere, draining budgets nicely.
same goes for 1B, as Rizzo, Votto, AdGonz, even Belt and Freeman draw big bids.
but there's a run of boring low double-digit guys who often don't go nearly as overinflated in this auction - and these happen to be my targets. they are both INF and OF. I mainly want to buy guys like Lucroy, Zimmerman, Myers, Adams, Prado, Zobrist, or SSs Adeiny, Alexei, Asdrubel, or Erick. Or in OF, Bruce Markakis Holliday Werth CCrawford Jay...
Cutch-Kemp-Gordon leave me long on AVG, R, and SB - but short on HR-RBI. will be tough for me to balance that, so will eye CCarter, Howard, WCastillo, DSantana later while also leaning against the empty AVG guys above (if practical).
my one other hope of draining the spending pool is that only 4 SPs forecast to be worth more than $12 are on the board. so while several teams like me don't plan to spend there, if a couple of owners lust for them, then Scherzer, Harvey, Strasburg, Harvey, and Cueto also could go through the roof.
no star closers available, fyi.
I won last year while waiting three HOURS to buy my first pitcher. might take even longer this year!
back tomorrow night with details.

that's last year's anatomy of an AUCTION
oh, I may take three 1-unit SPs, so who do you like? such as
Conley, Peavy, Cain, Niese, CAnderson, Norris, Finnegan, Wisler, Lamb, Nicasio (likely to spend 2 or 3 to bring back Jorge, Rubby's big bro).
