A friend asked me to join a free Yahoo league with some other guys he knows. It's a keeper league and I have no keepers but the first pick, and there's one guy with Trout, Harper, McCutchen, Donaldson, Arrieta, and Keuchel so we'll see how competitive this league is. I did see their draft results from last year and I'm pretty sure there are some holes I can exploit a little. Anyway.

10-team mixed, 6x6, adding OPS for hitting and K/9 for pitching, changing SV to net saves + holds. My plan is to take Kershaw over Goldschmidt with pick 1 and take one or two more pitchers in rounds 2-4, and they seem to undervalue holds (Street got taken round 13 last year but the only non-closer relievers that were even drafted were Miller and Wade Davis in the 26th) so I think I might be able to do a good job with pitching. I don't know if there's an exploitative strategy I can do with hitting though. Can you think of anything interesting? I'd go all speed but the OPS category really messes with that.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

        I don't know and I'm afraid to ask. It's costing him picks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 21 to keep them though.

Looks like there isn't one, just a cap at 1400. And no requirement for any SP, just nine pitchers in general. I could do that too.

            oh, whoops. It's not K/9, it's K/BB.

Let's hope it's not a money league, mjl. You're sure it's not just one guy who owns all the teams?

I dunno... punt AVG and steals on offense and load up on sluggers? And just drafting a bunch of MRs (May, Hendricks, maybe Betances, apparently Storen) could get you the lead in K9, ERA, WHIP and S+H. Tough to win punting 4 categories off the bat, but also tough to win when someone else has that keeper list. Maybe if you put all your picks towards offense you can get AVG too.

Yeah, that was my analysis as well. I don't think I can point that much but maybe if I spend all of my first 14 picks on hitting I can make a run at 50ish points, and I should be able to get 40 with a bunch of MRs, and then I just need a bit of luck.

The FanGraphs auction calculator, even if I don't have QS or K marked as scoring categories, thinks that Kershaw is the first pick by a huge margin. I can't compete in QS or K with just him, but is there any chance I should take him over Goldschmidt or just stick to the plan?
