  • 2K16: Jimmy Nelson

I have him in an option year at $1. Would you keep him at a $1 or sign him to one year contact at $6. League I'm in is 10 team 5x5 NL only and got him from a 2 team dispersal draft so likely rebuilding for the future. Based on projections from couple of different sites prediction around 180 IP with 10 wins and an ERA around 3.8 to 3.9. Thoughts?

      I wouldn't, in 10-team NL-only. maybe in 12-team or 13-team. also, 4x4 or 5x5?

I'd imagine there are not-terrible SPs in the end game for a buck or three in that format.

Depending on who else you have, I might keep him for $1, but no chance on an extension.

Definitely keep at $1. Don't extend.

No point in keeping but not extending if you are rebuilding.

Extend unless theres a penalty for dropping him if he stinks. Otherwise, drop/trade.

                .
disagree. if he surprises with a strong year but the team is out of contention, he'll fetch a nice haul for a second half's worth of stats. the contenders are looking for help "now" not necessarily later. plus with the 5 extra units to spend you have a better chance to add an additional piece to deal if it comes to it.

plus, rebuilding teams can surprisingly contend - how? in part by having a breakout guy for a buck.

Thanks for the replies. I've gone back and forth on extending him. One thing that I have noticed is through out his career at each level he vastly improves in the second season from A ball to majors. I keep thinking that there could be a nice profit here.

His profit, if any, will be marginable. If he does have a bit of a performance spike, just re-bid next year.
