  • Scouts losing Jobs

A lot of saber guys here, so I'm curious about what you all think of what seems to be a shift away from domestic scouting to video, medical, and numbers analysis.

You need to have a mixture of numbers & visual. The issue here is that every club has access to video feeds above and beyond what we see on TV. You go to Arizona and they have cameras from the scout view, the dugout view, the CF cam view & that allows you to see a lot of stuff. As someone whose T&E was near $50K last year for my job, I can only imagine what scouts do as they have more days on the road than I do.

Just my opinion, but if you want to keep your job, you better adapt to how your industry is going. We're seeing former saber guys that were running sites going to scouting departments (Lefkowitz in Seattle) or in the front office (McDaniel in Atlanta) because showing you can talk to the front office in their language while at the same time talking to the field staff in theirs is a good way to stay employed.
