  • another early look at 2016

I wish there was just another baseball season. Whenever the season ends I want to immediately get to seeing whether my preparation for next year is going to pay off.

RJEL (18-team mixed 5x5 using OBP, keep 5-10, pretty significant inflation):

    definite:
    1B/OF Chris Davis $17/2016
    2B Brian Dozier $8/2016
    3B Kyle Seager $15/2016
    OF Kole Calhoun $12/2016
    OF Mike Trout $25/2019
    P Arodys Vizcaino $5B

    possible:
    1B/2B Logan Forsythe $1B
    1B/OF Mark Canha $1A
    OF Aaron Altherr $4B
    2B/OF Enrique Hernandez $7B
    3B/OF Danny Valencia $5B
    P Sean Doolittle $1/option
    P Jerad Eickhoff $4B
    P Mike Fiers $3/option
    P Jason Hammel $7B
    P Jake McGee $4/option
    P Masahiro Tanaka $22B

10-team NL-only, 5x5 using AVG, keep 12 + 3 minors (can keep more minors than that if you want), significant inflation:

    definite:
    C Kyle Schwarber $13A
    1B Paul Goldschmidt $20/2017
    2B DJ LeMahieu $2/option
    OF Joc Pederson $5B
    OF David Peralta $8B
    P Jake Arrieta $10/option
    P Hector Rondon $10/option
    P Tyson Ross $6/2016
    P Arodys Vizcaino $10B

    possible:
OF Cameron Maybin $10B (good overall numbers, terrible second half)
1B/OF Ben Paulsen $6B (if he has a job)
    2B Kelby Tomlinson $5A
    P Kenley Jansen $26B
    P Jason Hammel $8B
    P John Lamb $5B
    P Joe Ross $10B

minors are probably Austin Meadows $10, Ian Happ $8, Jharel Cotton $5; could sub in Michael Reed $5.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I think Altherr will have a full time job next year and should be league average. .250 avg, 15hr/15sb feels like a floor to me which seems worth $4. I'd wait and see if they sign anyone to get in his way though.
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert...
