  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects (Special "Deaccat" Edition)

Deaccat asked me to post a new list, so here it is. Lots of new additions, partly due to heavy attrition. I had planned to wait until after the end of the MLB season, but this way I beat BA's League Top 20 Prospects lists, which they'll be beginning shortly. I probably wont post another one until rt before BA starts doing its Team Top 10 lists.

Same spiel as usual: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), and actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

In addition to posting the list here, I've created a new Google Doc that has the list. Link:

I'm glad he asked! Thanks rhd!!!

Are you ranking for dynasty leagues or standard leagues? I'm trying to figure out the implications for standard leagues (with more limited minor league slots and no "keep forever" provisions).

Specific example: Brendan Rodgers would seem to be a number of years away, so despite his ceiling, I might have expected to see him a bit lower down the list.

Thoughts on realistic ETA (year and early or late in season) for guys like Tim Anderson, Raimel Tapia, Aaron Judge?

None of this intended as criticism; love the lists and just want to make best use of them.

    Thanks as always rhd!!

      Love this...

Thanks to dumping, I now have 5 of your top 14 for the NL (Seager, Urias, Crawford, Swanson, Peraza) and 5 of the top 28 in AL (Gallo, Moncada, Mazara, Judge, Baretto)

Thanx as always for your response and props, Sharky.

The list is for standard leagues where you can only keep prospects for several years after they get to MLB. I'm not in any dynasty leagues.

Elite prospects drafted out of HS, like Brendan Rodgers, are not as far away from MLB as many think. IIRC, the Upton brothers each debuted at age 19 and Harper at age 18. Rodgers might be in MLB as soon as late 2017, altho 2018 seems more realistic. The guys that are really far away are the super young Dominican and Venezuelan kids so those that make the list at all usually are farther down. An exception is Anderson Espinoza, who despite being only 17 still have is ranked pretty high. That's partly because he's considered such a stud talent (people are projecting him as a potential true ace already) and partly because pitchers can develop much faster than position players.

Anderson I expect might be up sometime in 2016, probably late season. Tapia I'll guess sometime in 2017. Judge should be up sometime next year, possibly early. I think the Yanks will make room for him somewhere.

            1) Great list!

            2) Thank you too for sharing the google ss!

            3) OF Phil Ervin - I still like his combo of power and speed, and his K numbers weren't too bad, with high BB too. I know the prospect raters don't like him, but you've had him in your list recently - curious what changed your mind about him?

            4) 2B-OF Peraza - what role do you see for him on the Dodgers next year?

            5) SP Yadier Alvarez- any idea how he's doing? I didn't find much from the google. But top international prospect says http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=int

            6) SP Pierce Johnson - too old, doesn't strike out enough guys? Just 4 HR in 95 IP though - groundball pitcher/upside? Curious how close he is to your top 150.

Thanks again for your great list and thinking!

Thanx as always for your response, James.

I still like Ervin and he's not far off the list and probably will be back on after more players lose their eligibility before season's end. His year this year is considerably better than last year's disaster but it's still disappointing. Top prospects should be generating better performance, particularly those that aare slightly old for their leagues. I tried to keep Ervin on but I had to move some players off in order to put on those that I really wanted on.

I would assume that the Dodgers traded for Peraza for a reason and that they intend for him to be their starting 2Bman, SS or OFer soon. Their aging middle IFers arent signed beyond this year unless options are picked up. But the Dodgers' OF looks like a mess now so he might be more useful to them out there. But Crawford, Ethier and Puig all are signed thru 2017. Puig is tradeable, and it sounds like they want to, but Crawford and Ethier not so much. And they'll want to play Pederson. So, I dont know w Peraza. He may be a bench player for the time being until they figure what to do w all their underperforming former stars.

Havent heard anything about Alvarez. I assume he's in instructs and will start playing next year.

Yeah, Johnson;s K rate is underwhelming and BA ranked him only #10 on their mid-season Cubs list. He's #247 rt now.

Great list RHD, but at least a few more top 50 players will be dropping-off, namely Byron Buxton (currently at 115 at-bats), Michael Conforto (128 at-bats), Arodys Vizcaino (47.1 innings) and maybe Joey Gallo (105 at-bats)

I expect Judge to be starting sometime in 2016, but perhaps not on opening day. I'm guessing later in the year.

Right. I figure 10-12 more guys on the list will exceed eligibility by season's end.

Great list, thanks again. It may be interesting to see how much Bundy moves from now to the pre-season list if he's able to stay on the mound. He's out of options and unless he shows something in the spring, the O's are going to be in a bit of a bind.
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!
