    Which player will help me the most?
    need all hitting except SB but understand avg probably cant change much
    runs/rbis preferred over Hrs

    Matt Kemp
    Bryce Harper
    Nelson Cruz
    Adam Jones
    Cano
    Jay Bruce
    A-Gonz
    Kipnis

    are any of these three solid closers?
    Carson Smith
    Casilla
    Gregerson
    Ramos
    Tolleson
    Britton

    Clearly not Carson Smith, Casilla and Gregorson if you need all hitting.

    I'd probably put Harper, A-Gonz and A Jones on the top of the list.

      Agree with this.

      I'd rank the closers

      Britton
      ~~~~~~
      Casilla
      Ramos
      Tolleson
      ~~~~~~
      Gregerson
      Carson Smith

      I worry about HOU trading for a closer (Uehara, Chapman, Soria). Smith is dynamite but Rodney will get some saves.

              Cruz/Britton is tempting but I could not pass up Harper/Boxberger.

                Harper/Boxberger by a pretty wide margin for me.

                    I'll go a bit contrarian here and say it depends on who you're giving up and who the receiving players (mainly on the hitting side) will be replacing. From a R/RBI perspective, Cruz, Harper and Jones are projected with very similar stats. Harper projects more HR and higher BA as well, but you, yourself, acknowledge BA will not impact much.

                    But, what is is costing you in each of those deals??

                    In a vacuum, and assuming you only have to give up a non-playing keeper and the player being replaced is only a part-time player, it's Harper, no doubt. But, I'll have to assume the replacement player, at a minimum, will likely give you at least 50% of the R/RBi that he is projected or the other owners wouldn't even be interested in making an offer. Would the price you need to pay to get Harper be worth it to your team? I would argue that you would have to give up much less to get a combo of say Kemp/Casilla vs Harper/Boxberger. Kemp is projected to provide ~6 less R/RBI than Harper and Casilla projected more S (if you need them), but you may be able to keep a more valuable player in your lineup rather than trading him and having better combined stats.

                    Of course, this is all about projections, not reality, so who knows....

                      I am giving up high draft picks
                      and a bench player - Kevin Pillar and still not sure which pitcher - probably Hoover

                      Carpenter would move to the bench and be replaced by whoever I pick up
                      I do have Span on the DL

                        Given what you are dealing, then by all means, target Harper. He is clearly an upgrade over Carpenter (although in R/RBI, it's closer than you think projection wise). But, given Pillar, Hoover and draft picks, you have to go Harper...as far as the reliever, any of the closers will be better than Hoover, at least in terms of save opportunities.
