  • Mets get Clippard

Mets acquired RHP Tyler Clippard and cash considerations from the Athletics in exchange for RHP Casey Meisner.
Clippard has had control issues this season with 21 walks over 38 2/3 innings. He's also struck out 38, though, while posting a 2.79 ERA. It's unclear at this point what role he'll serve in, but he'll most likely help set up for Jeurys Familia. Clippard will be a free agent after the season. Edward Mujica is likely the favorite for saves with the A's now.

another critical piece to the Mets puzzle??

actually they haven't gotten much in trades but didn't give up really anything at all so far

but these acquisitions are just buckets to bail the leaking boat

I'm ok with their trades so far. Nothing dramatic but useful pieces. The bullpen needed the help and Meisner was not irreplaceable. Uribe and Johnson were HUGE upgrades over guys like John Mayberry Jr. The big ticket guys so far seem to be pitchers (Cueto, Kazmir, maybe Price). The cost of JUpton and others is probably quite high -- and arguably not worth it. For Tulowitzki it might be worth paying a big price, but not for JUpton, Venable, etc.

Well this is surely the first step in a larger plan, just like Cuddyer was... oh wait.

Ouch. C'mon jc, Clippard is only 30 years old. So he's practically a rookie in relative terms.
