  • AL Trade: Going for it

    12 team AL 5x5

I'm in 5th, 8.5 out of 2nd. Top 4 get paid. With upgrades I can gain:

    2 points AVG
    4 HR
    3 R
    2 RBI
    3 SB

    2 K
    2 W
    2 WHIP

The 8th place owner wants Britton. I offered:

    Robinson 1 Pomeranz 11 Medlen 5 Britton 17
    for
    Paredis 3 de Aza 15 McCullers 13 Ubaldo 1

I don't love his guys, but they are performing and are upgrades. I don't think I'm giving up much. Thoughts?

ETA: Prices are for 2016 only.

I worry about how many innings McCullers has left. I worry a little bit about Pomeranz getting to close. How is he even a possible keeper at 11? Paredes is a major regression candidate and ADA, well, who the hell knows?

Can you try to just trade Britton for one real bat somewhere? If not, I guess I roll the dice assuming you don't lose many points in saves.

I just pulled the offer. I hadn't considered an innings limit for McCullers, or Pomeranz as closer. I've had a couple bites on Pom and wasn't sure why.

He is clutching Reddick 14 and Bogaerts 19 who I don't think are great keepers. I admit the 4 guys I asked for are a house of cards.

I don't like that trade at all - you're getting back a lot of question marks while giving up the best player in the deal (Britton).

Yeah try to convince him Xander isn't a keeper (though I suspect he is)

The first place team offered me

            Quintana 21 Trumbo (2015-$5, 2016-$86)
            for
            Britton 17 Rusney 8x

            Meh.

I moved up to 4th today. 8th place emailed saying Sano is in play. I proposed the following:

                Bogaerts 19 Sano 10 Ubaldo 1 Scribner 1
                for
                Kinsler 19X ______ Graveman 5 Britton 17

and told him to fill in the blank.

He said Bogaerts was untouchable unless he got a decent MI back. I have Kinsler and Reyes there. I decided to pass on McCullers. I do have Medlen coming back soon.

                  Still don't like that trade.

                  To me it's:
                  Kinsler = Bogaerts
                  Graveman > Ubaldo
                  Britton >>>> Scribner

And Sano is a nice piece but very risky as a rookie who skipped AAA.

I appreciate the analysis. I may be overvaluing the upgrade(?) from Graveman. His latest offer was the following, sans Rios, who I would add:

                    Bogaerts 19 Sano 10 Rios 23 Ubaldo 1 Scribner 1
                    for
                    Colabello 3 Kinsler 19X Graveman 5 Pomeranz 11 Britton 17

I am asking for Scribner as the handcuff to Clippard. I'd rather keep Pomeranz in that case but he seems to want him. Sano would likely be flipped to a dumper.

                    Thoughts?

I just have a hard time trusting Ubaldo, even with his early success. Graveman has been lights out since coming back from the minors and while his K rate will always be an issue, I believe in the ratios he'll provide. Rios isn't much of a piece at this point so his inclusion doesn't do much for me. Not sure Scribner is even the handcuff to own - that A's pen would be quite the question mark if/when Clippard gets traded (Mujica? Pomeranz? Scribner? Doolittle?) so unless you end up with Scribner AND Pomeranz, I wouldn't let that factor into your trade strategy.

While closers are generally overrated, I don't see how the other pieces in these trades are enough of an upgrade to make it worth it. There's gotta be a team out there that would give you a nice hitter or pitcher for Britton straight-up.

Maybe it's too early to make another trade. Most teams aren't sure if they are buyers or sellers. The 8th place team seems to be trying to make 'baseball' trades when I think he's out of it.

I've seen teams make surges and I have climbed from 9th to 4th in the past month. I believed I had a strong offense but the production wasn't there. Everyone is healthy and my team is doing well as a whole. Might be best to leave it alone.

I could look at something smaller like:

                        Bogaerts/Sano/Ubaldo
                        for
                        Britton/Colabello/Pomeranz

Now he wants to hang onto Sano but Moose and Reddick are back in play. I offered:

                            Bogaerts/Reddick
                            for

Eh, only if you're desperate for offense. Britton should be able to fetch a better hitter than Reddick.
