The gentleman who used to be named/play baseball like Robinson Cano??

Is he a buy low? Or is this year looking like -- or, shiver, looking worse than -- his down year in 2008 (.271, 14 HR, 86 OPS+, etc.). Right now, his numbers across the board are putrid, even worse than 2008. Reason I ask, I have an offer on table with a guy who needs extra HR pop in his OF...6x6 mixed keeper.

I give: Braun and Logan Forsythe
I get: Cano and G.Springer.

Springer is keeper eligible. I have Dickerson on the DL and he should be back soon to get some pop back into my OF if need be. I'm a little worried about Brantley's back, too, so not sure I can lose Braun, but I do like Springer's SBs, decent pop and his keeper status. Current roster:

C- Hundley
1B- Rizzo
2B- Forsythe
SS- Kang
3B- Donaldson
MI- J.Turner
CI- Moustakas
OF- Trout, Brantley, Braun, Pollock
UTIL- Paredes

Ha, I originally offered C.Dickerson for Rendon, straight-up, and he passed and said "What would it take for Braun, maybe Cano and _____?"....so I told him.

You also can't underestimate (A) how brutal Cano has been and (B) how frustrated his owners might be. Yes, he's a proven stud, and yes, it's only 2 months, but look at these lines:

Cano: .251/2 HR/16 RBI/22 R/.295 OBP

Forsythe: .296/5HR/22RBI/19R/.369 OBP

Am I saying Forsythe is better than Cano? Nope. Has he been infinitely better for the first two months of the season? Yup.

Thanks. But that's also what everyone said after Week 3 when I dealt Prince Fielder & Chris Carter for Anthony Rizzo & J.Papelbon. Not that I've lost that trade, necessarily -- Rizzo has remained very good and Paps has helped me lead saves/WHIP/ERA -- but Prince has gone f'n nutso. That Carter "only" has 8 bombs and is hitting sub-Mendoza is the only thing keeping me from beating my head against a wall.

Fangraphs has an article today on 2B tiers. Cano is in the third tier and Forsythe in the 4th tier

I really don't know what to expect from these two guys the rest of the way. Not sure how to explain either of their performances this year, though I'm hoping Forsythe continues to play well

I agree that it's a nice trade for you but it's certainly not outside the realm of possibility that the other guy wins this trade. Braun is no slouch and he's been hitting a ton recently.

Yeah, agree...while I appreciate the boost of managerial confidence, I could also get reamed on this deal if Cano keeps playing worse than 2008 and Springer hovers around .220 all year.

Clearly, those who think I handily won this deal have FULL confidence that Cano will return to the .300+, OBP machine with 20HR pop he usually is. But I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest he's going to turn it around and have that kind of finish. Hope he does. But I'm seriously worried. That said, I like getting Springer as a keeper, obviously.
