How do you feel about the designated hitter?

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I don't know why the NL couldn't just come up with an in-between option: make a rule that pitchers don't need to come out after being pinch hit for.
e.g. it's third inning, you want to pinch hit for your starter - do it and he stays in the game - as before, the pinch hitter is not available again that game.
So there is no full time player that doesn't field, but you also don't have to see the pitcher bat so often.
