Yes, but do they go to Zeigler? I think an argument can be made that they would go to Marshall next. So, a 35-year old pitcher coming off injury who pitches in a hitters park, and may not be the next in line to close? You can do better.

As for tossing back Giles and Ottavino... that's a fine plan. It's always good to have more money at draft. I'd be interested to hear what they go for on the open market, and what you end up getting for that $20.

      from azcentral.com, March 22

"As long as he's healthy, he'll be pitching in the eighth," manager Chip Hale said. "Guys with experience are hard to find, and we don't have a whole lot of them. He's one of them."

Ziegler has earned that confidence with a long history of success in the bullpen. The 35-year-old has a career 2.56 ERA over his seven-year career, including a 2.63 mark the last three and a half years with Arizona. He's never pitched fewer than 58 innings.

Last year he had a career-worst 3.49 mark, but for two and a half months of the 2014 season he was pitching through injury. Through July 26, he had a more Ziegler-esque ERA of 2.40. The next game, he felt something in his knee."

      ..............

I think I keep Ziegler for 1 - and also Pagan, who HQ values at uninflated $18 for 446 AB. he can miss a month (again) and achieve that. and no Leake extension, agreed.

      so likely

      10 for 106

      SP Greinke 25-S1
      SP Leake 1-O

      RP K-Rod 2-S1
      RP Ziegler 1-S1

      C YMolina 20-S1
      302 Harrison 10-S1
      2B Gordon 15-L2

      OF Puig 10-L2
      OF GPolanco 5-S1
      OF Pagan 17-S1

those hitters stole 124 bases last year, more than 7 rivals' entire teams. I could ignore SB completely in the auction and still have a shot at top-3 SB status, and their collective AVG is also stellar.

that sets me up to aim for brutes like Mark Trumbo and Jay Bruce in the auction.....

am more on the fence re Giles than anyone, and will monitor Rockies bullpen this weekend as well.

Sounds like a plan... But not a fan of Bruce or the Reds this year.

went with the guys in my sig, dumped Panik 10, Giles 10, Ottavino 10

interesting comparison to the RJ-laden league with super stars and scrubs and immediate rebuilders, as these players were among those tossed back:

            Braun 48
            McCutchen 48
            AdGonz 38
            JUpton 38
            Tulowitzki 33
            Revere 27
            Posey 27
            Werth DL 26
            Pence DL 26
            Hamels 25
            DMurphy 25
            Belt 24
            Morneau 22
            Granderson 22
            RHoward 19

Hamels, amazingly, is the only pitcher in the bunch

best pitchers available in the auction:

            CLAYTON KERSHAW

            MAX SCHERZER

            COLE HAMELS
            ADAM WAINWRIGHT
            JON LESTER
            JAMES SHIELDS

            GIO GONZALEZ

            MAT LATOS

Latos is 21st on my current NL SP list, but he's 8th-best available, roughly

gotta wrap my head around this by Sunday. I would imagine many of those players will go for more at the auction Sunday.

maybe we need to do an offseason trading session! only one deal, although I discussed a few and there were many other talks....

Too late to help with your keeper decisions, but maybe it can help with your auction

We drafted on March 6th, so that created some oddities, but here are prices for my 12 team 5x5 NL-only league (OBP though):

              Greinke 25 - $29 (kept)
              Leake 1 - $5 (kept)

              K-Rod 2 - $14 (kept)
              Ziegler 1 - $1 (auctioned, end game)

YMolina 20 - $20 (tossed back at $29...auctioned, third round of throws)
              Harrison 10 - $4 (kept)
              Gordon 15 - $18 (extended through 2018...was owned at $3)

              Puig 10 - $22 (extended through 2017...was owned at $12)
              GPolanco 5 - $4 (kept)
Pagan 17 - $17 (tossed back at $23...auctioned, round 6, only Lind at $21 went for more after this)

              Panik 10 - $5 (kept)
Giles 10 - $2 (kept as a salary exempt minor leaguer at $2)
              Ottavino 10 - $2 (auctioned, end game)

              Quackenbush 10 - $5 (kept)
Gray 5 - (kept as a salary exempt minor leaguer at $5)
HSanchez 2 - (selected in the seventh round of reserve picks...keepable at $5 going forward)

              Braun 48 - $45 (auctioned, round 1)
McCutchen 48 - $57 (auctioned, round 1, most expensive player)
AdGonz 38 - $43 (kept, acquired in offseason trade)
              JUpton 38 - $46 (auctioned, round 1)
              Tulowitzki 33 - $46 (auctioned, round 1)
Revere 27 - $31 (kept, acquired in offseason trade)
              Posey 27 - $40 (auctioned, round 1)
              Werth DL 26 - $20 (auctioned, round 4)
Pence DL 26 - $33 (kept, acquired in offseason trade)
              Hamels 25 - $28 (kept)
              DMurphy 25 - $21 (auctioned, round 2)
              Belt 24 - $27 (auctioned, round 4)
              Morneau 22 - $26 (kept)
Granderson 22 - $25 (auctioned, round 5 - no player went for more after this)
              RHoward 19 - $16 (auctioned, round 5)

              CLAYTON KERSHAW - $46 (kept)

MAX SCHERZER - $39 (auctioned, round 1, most expensive pitcher in the auction)

              COLE HAMELS - $25 (kept)
ADAM WAINWRIGHT - $20 (kept, acquired in offseason trade)
JON LESTER - $29 (auctioned, round two)
JAMES SHIELDS - $24 (auctioned, round 2, next player thrown after Lester)

              GIO GONZALEZ - $21 (auctioned, round 3)

              MAT LATOS - $19 (auctioned, round 4)

              I hope this is useful...
