We can use this thread for all things closer related if we want to. Or not. I really just wanted a place to talk about the current Yankees' closer situation.
So why is it that most people have seemed to believe that Betances was due to get the role even after the Yanks signed Andrew Miller? I guess I always figured it was 50/50 after that signing, and I also assumed that Miller would get the tough chances against lefties in the 9th anyway (so he was in line to get 8-12 saves even if he wasn't the official closer). What was the driving impetus behind people assuming Betances would inherit the closer job?
I know Betances has had some issues this Spring, especially with his velocity and location (two things you do not want to have issues with in late March when your role is being decided), so this situation is more in flux than most commenters would have believed earlier this offseason. What do you guys think?
