  • Speed in NL-only keeper leagues

So I noticed this at least year's trade deadline, when there really wasn't any speed to trade for. I already had Rollins, and if I hadn't had Todd Frazier, I would have been screwed in steals. Most of the other guys were cheap keepers and their owners wouldn't move them. It looks like the situation will probably be the same for most NL only leagues this year. Here are the top projected SB guys by Steamer:

Gordon - almost definitely a cheap keeper somewhere
    B Hamilton - ditto
Revere - if he's back, will be a bidding war
C Gomez - superstar player, if not kept will be crazy expensive
Marte - cheap keeper or 5-category bidding war starter
    Blackmon - ditto
    G Polanco - ditto
D Span - probably a cheap keeper for a lot of owners, if not he'll get bid up
Segura - not sure about him
    Yelich - see Marte/Polanco
    J Pederson - ditto

So where is the speed going to come from?

Actually noticed the same thing which motivated me to trade for Revere and enter the draft with virtually no money. Maybe gamble on EY making the Braves or Eury Perez performing well in Melvin's absence? Heyward? Pagan? Aoki? Fowler? Might be a year to get a bunch of 10-15 SB guys and look for the middle of the pack.

Jason Heyward? Drew Stubbs? Not a lot of help, but Nate McLouth for a few? Plus old man Ichiro has moved to the NL now.

My 2 NL-only leagues back up your thinking.

Gordon - definite keeper in both
Hamilton - definite keeper in both
Revere - probable keeper in both
Gomez - definite keeper in both
Marte - definite keeper in both
Blackmon - definite keeper in main league, avail in 2nd league
Polanco - definite keeper in both
Span - not sure about both. ($20/$21)
Segura - avail in main league, definite keeper in 2nd league
Yelich - definite keeper in both
Pederson - definite keeper in both

Also, Desmond and Pollock and Wong will be kept in both.

So, one league will have Segura and maybe Span; the other league Blackmon and maybe Span.

On the other hand, SB is up, is it not in general, relative to HR? I have a feeling that the dearth of 25+ HR guys will be everyone's focus instead.

Lagares might sneak in 20 bags

Tons of 10-20 sb guys. I'll probably be packing my roster with as many of them as possible.

Cameron Maybin/Will Venable (if Wil Myers defense isn't good enough -- or a trade)
            Arismendy Alcantara
            Drew Stubbs
            Ender Inciarte
Howie Kendrick (new to the league)
Dexter Fowler (new to the league)
Norichika Aoki (new to the league)

            as previously mentioned:
            Eric Young
            Juan Lagares
            Nate McLouth

I haven't seen AJ Pollock on this list - he looks to me to be a 20 - 30 SB guy. Two guys who you might be able to sneak in at reasonable to cheap prices for 10 -15 SBs would be Scooter Gennett and Hechevarria.
I'm just here for the baseball.
