  • Keeper Help - NL-Only

    Hi,

Our keeper deadline is a little over two weeks away, so I was hoping to get a few opinions on my protections. It's a standard 5x5, NL-Only Auction League. 10 Teams, $280 for 25 (2 C, 2 UT, 10 P), we can keep as many or as few players as we like.

All players are entering their second season unless noted. Players in their option year can be kept at the same price for one more year, or extended at $5 per additional season.

C Wilson Ramos, Was $3 (Option Year)
1B Ryan Howard, Phi $7 (Option Year)
2B/3B Anthony Rendon, Was $5 (Option Year)
    2B/3B Yangervis Solarte, SD $6
2B Tommy La Stella, Chi $5
    3B Jake Lamb, Ari $6
    SS Starlin Castro, Chi $6
SS Chris Owings, Ari $6 (Option Year)
OF Bryce Harper, Was $18 (3 years remaining on long term deal, must keep)
    OF Billy Hamilton, Cin $10
    OF Jorge Soler, Chi $3
    OF Ben Revere, Phi $10
    OF/1B Mark Trumbo, Ari $19
    OF Juan Lagares, NY $1
    OF Rymer Liriano, SD $8

    P Cole Hamels, Phi $13
    P Doug Fister, Was $12
    P Mat Latos, Mia $18
    P Hyun-Jin Ryu, LA $14 (Option Year)
    P Tim Hudson, SF $9
P Dillon Gee, NY $5 (Option Year)
    P Shelby Miller, Stl $19
    P Kenley Jansen, LA $19
P Mark Melancon, Pit $1 (Option Year)
    P Drew Storen, Was $6
    P Hector Rondon, Chi $6
    P Kevin Quackenbush, SD $5

Minors (free to keep, price listed is salary when recalled):

    - Lucas Giolito, Was $10
    - Austin Meadows, Pit $3

    Thanks.

Nice list! I'd keep all except for Solarte, La Stella, Liriano, Latos, Gee & Miller. And not sure about Quack...he may not be next in line to replace Benoit this year in case of injury or next year. I wouldn't sign him either.

      Agree though might keep Latos.

Thanks. This is what I'd been looking at so far -

        Definite Keepers:

        C Wilson Ramos, Was $3
2B/3B Anthony Rendon, Was $5 (probably extend 2 years to $15)
        SS Starlin Castro, Chi $6
        OF Bryce Harper, Was $18
        OF Billy Hamilton, Cin $10
        OF Jorge Soler, Chi $3
        OF Ben Revere, Phi $10
        OF Juan Lagares, NY $1

        P Cole Hamels, Phi $13
        P Doug Fister, Was $12
        P Hyun-Jin Ryu, LA $14
P Mark Melancon, Pit $1 (probably extend 1 year to $6)
        P Drew Storen, Was $6
        P Hector Rondon, Chi $6

        - Lucas Giolito, Was $10 (Minors)

        On the Fence:

        1B Ryan Howard, Phi $7
        3B Jake Lamb, Ari $6
        SS Chris Owings, Ari $6
OF/1B Mark Trumbo, Ari $19 (went for $19 last year and had a bad year, seems unlikely he'd go for more if I throw him back, but I'm not sure)
        P Mat Latos, Mia $18
        P Tim Hudson, SF $9

        - Austin Meadows, Pit $3 (Minors)

        Probably Not:

        2B/3B Yangervis Solarte, SD $6
2B Tommy La Stella, Chi $5
        OF Rymer Liriano, SD $8
        P Shelby Miller, Stl $19
P Dillon Gee, NY $5 (Option Year)
P Kenley Jansen, LA $19 (I'd normally think about him at $19, but with the injury and 3 other closers, seems like a waste)
P Kevin Quackenbush, SD $5 (again, 3 cheap closers, I don't think I need to keep a possible closer in waiting at $5)

Any more thoughts, particularly on the "On the Fence" guys? Thanks.

I'd start with definitely keep Owings; with his youth and starting position, he's easily worth $6. And I'd start by throwing old man Hudson back; hard to imagine he'd go for any more than $9.

Trumbo, with any inflation (and by looks of your keeper list, there is inflation), still goes for at least $19, I think; there's not that much power available.

Howard close; I'd throw him back.

This leaves you with a little wiggle room still to buy one CI and one UT, right, even if Lamb has good spring, makes the opening day squad (fwiw, rosterresource says no).

Close call, but I'd throw Latos back. $18 seems close to full value even with some inflation to me.

10 teams/$280, I toss back everyone on the "On the Fence" list except for Owings. If you want any of them back, I think you can get them for value or maybe a buck more, likely a buck or two less.

I agree with your extends as well. I'm not a big fan of multi-year extensions, but Rendon's sure worth two years if anyone is at that price.
I'm just here for the baseball.
