  • 2015 Bold MLB Predictions

Brandon Maurer is closing for the San Diego Padres by the All Star break, and his performance is in the top 10 for all relievers in 2015.

Steve Pearce stays healthy, hits 30+ homers, has a 6+ WAR season and makes the fans of Baltimore forget Nelson Cruz's name.

The Royals don't win 80 games. (Is that not bold enough for you? How about I say 77 games!)

Clayton Kershaw posts an ERA under 1.25.

Kyle Schwarber surpasses Kris Bryant as the Cubs' best hitting youngster in their organization.

The Phillies will win the World Series! (not really, but if they do, I'll come back and edit this out)
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

Padres have 2, 20 game winners and 2, 15 game winners and lead the league in ERA
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

Joey Votto stays healthy, walks < 80 times and gets 230 hits. Wins MVP. Reds advance to Series.

Padres new roster goes 30-51 in 1st half. Shields, Kemp & Upton are all dealt before July is over.

Nelson Cruz hits 48 HRs (and passes all drug tests); Seager hits .325 with power; Felix puts up usual good numbers but actually wins games and finishes 25-7. Seattle goes to the Series.

Kershaw proves he is not super human - ERA of 2.80; WHIP of 1.14; still wins Cy Young.

Dodgers and Yankees, upset about BoSox spending, decide to spend $ on next hot prospect. 7/12/15 Dodgers announce 5 year, $110M contract signed with dslaw.

            nice.

I'll stay homer-ish (that could be homer as in Jays fan, or as astute as Homer Simpson ... )

Aaron Sanchez closes for the Jays & rides his 98mph fb to 51 saves.
            Marcus Stroman wins 20 games
Daniel Norris is recalled in June & wins his first 10 decisions.
Josh Donaldson loves hitting away from Oakland so much he hits 45 HRs but only hits .245 (becomes a bit too homer-happy)
and left out of the limelight, Justin Smoak finds his stroke again and hits 40 HRs ... & gets his avg up to .230.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

              Which pair has Josh Johnson?

The Ranger finish better in team ranking of ERA and Fielding than they do HR and RBI.

The A's finish ahead of SF in the standings.

              AL sweeps the City Cups.

Detroit finishes 3rd in the division.

              Cleveland finishes second.

The Mets lead the league in SP ERA but finish 4th overall.

              Colorado escapes the cellar.

Red Sox over Reds in WS.

If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

The 30 mile move from the AL LA to to the NL LA team somehow turns Howie Kendrick into the batting champ some expected to be. He ends up winning the batting title by hitting .334, but faces criticism from fans and pundits for getting "hurt" before the final game to preserve is title.

Despite all expectations to the contrary, Cole Hamels' asking price is too much, and he remains a Philly all year, but still manages to win 20 games, accounting for a 1/3 of all Philly wins..the largest percentage by any pitcher on any team since Steve Carlton's mind-boggling 1972 season, where he won 46% of his teams games.

There will be twice as many 200 K+ pitchers than 30 homer+ hitters in the majors in 2015.

Javier Baez will be one of 9 players with over 30 homers, leading the league with 36, and one of 3 players with over 200 Ks as a hitter, leading the league with 212. He will join Mark Reynolds and Adam Dunn as the only players in history to have both 200K and 30 homers in a single season.

The Nationals run away with the best record in baseball with 112 wins, but lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Tim Kirkjian wins a mascot race.

Edit: Hah, I just saw El D had the same prediction on the Nationals dominating the regular season and losing in the first round.

As a result Fox sublets the rest of its MLB post season contract to ESPN in order to avoid future ratings disasters.

The Phils have a better chance to win the World Series this year...so this would qualify as bold.
