I would take the under because i think that Kela is the best arm in that bullpen now. He could run with the closer job if given the chance.

      Melancon gets the saves imo

I don't have a lot of faith in Melancon. He has been very hittable the last few years. That being said, he could still accumulate the "ugly" saves if Tingler wants to make him the closer.

Best reliever probably shouldn't be the usual closer. Ask the Rays. Hell for fantasy purposes, however.

          • Tingler has said it's open and all 4 guys (poss a 5th) have a shot to close games. Pomeranz, Pegan, Melancon, Kela and Castillo.

I won't have an idea until I see some spring games, plus there should be more definitive news from the Padres by then.

If I were to speculate I'd gamble on one of the RHP with swing and miss stuff.

            • Man, that Tatis contract is seriously backloaded. He's really cheap in his younger years and will be making $36M yearly for the last five years of the contract.

                • It might just be chatter but.......There's a rumor going around that the Padres are trading FOR Yelich and Hader from the Brewers and sending Myers, Cronenworth, Morejon and 2 prospects one possibly being Abrahms.

I can and can't see that happening, but man--with Preller--even these kinds of whispers have legs.

I am not sure why, but I kind of hope it happens.

Abrams would be a tough loss, and Hader is showing the teeny tiny early signs of a fade. But man, those two are studs. What a huge get they would be.

I have to iomagine should something like this go down, they'd throw in Stammen. Abrahms would be tough, but they have Kim and Profar to man 2nd. Plus Marcano, Ruiz and Rugio in the pipe. Abrahms was never going to see SS anyhow, 2b was his place and that was down the road a bit as Jake, Kim and Profar are all ahead of him.

the 2021 salaries would be a push, but the Brewers get out from under Christians massive payday and away from Hader's escalating arb numbers.

                          • That would be a fascinating trade and seems plausible.

GITH - where did you pick up this rumor? Is it just local scuttlebutt or a semi-reliable source?

Local scuttlebutt it's looking more like a twitter post that started with Hader and grew with the imagination of a few overzealous tweeters -- Though the Padres remain interested in Hader, they haven't publicly mentioned Christian at all. I'll temper my expectations to zero and should something heat up--I'll post it here as soon as I have confirmation.

                              • Yeah, I can see the Brewers dealing Hader if the Pads pony up the right package. But I’d be shocked if they deal Yelich, too, unless the return is outrageous.
