I read and no doubt he was distancing himself from AA. It actually a good opportunity for a GM because he left AA run the club as he pleased for 7 years. I don't see that as a problem.

He went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts in his debut.

I hope you are right. To me he came off like a spoiled rich prick that doesn't take accountability.

LOL! He doesn't give the best press conference. We will see if the Tigers promote from within or go outside the organization. I personally do not think Epstein would be interested in the job but he should be on the list. Names that I read might be interested are Randy Flores Cards or Dana Brown Braves. If he promotes within the organization Menzin who is GM for now.

          • Uh-oh. Might be more than just arm fatigue. Tigers transfer Tarik Skubal to the 60-day IL. See you in 2023. Maybe.

Aaaaaand now it's the elbow. Tarik Skubal will visit a specialist on Monday to get another opinion on his injured left elbow.

It incredible how this went from "I can make my next start" to he should only out a few days to 15 day DL to 60 day DL to seeing an elbow specialist. I think whoever the new GM is he is going to need a 10 man rotation. Every one of the original rotation has been injured and I think every pitcher from Toledo rotation has been also injured. So many I have lost count.

                • Skubal is having flexor tendon surgery. He will be at least out until mid-2023.

                  • I’m sad for Tigers fans this year. Didn’t expect to dominate but should be seeing the seeds of the next gen. It reminds me (as a Mets fan), of the whole “Generation K” flip (Pulsipher, Isringhausen, Wilson).

It's been a weird frustrating season. All original starters going on the DL, the next set of starters going on the DL making 11 total or maybe I lost count. The offense historically bad. Avila fired. Tigers fans went ballistic last night as Guardians scored 6 runs after Chafin third strikeout in the inning got away from Haase while leading 4-2. I now think they are at least 2-3 years away from being relevant depending on the new GM direction and it might be longer. It's a mess.

Can anyone make this Skubal owner have some hope by pointing to a case of this surgery working out? The only one I can think of is Boyd, and at the time, I recall folks thinking it was better than TJ, with about half the recovery time, but he never really came back from it.

The Tigers do not have have a time line to when he will be back so the educated guess is mid season. It is possible that even if everything goes right in the recovery he might not be effective until 2024.

Or he may never be....I can't think of any pitcher having this surgery and coming back form it. Can anyone else?

                              Taillon and Mikolas

Thanks. They both did make it back eventually, which is good, but it was a long road with starts and stops, although it is unclear how much of that was coincidence, as Mikolas' timeline from 2020 initially suggested that he would be good to go to start the next year and his late July surgery. And Skubal is younger. So it is possible he could contribute in 2023, maybe even most of it, but who knows? I traded a lot to get him, but it looks like Skubal is not a keeper for next year at this point.
