  • *** Post-1979 Album Draft - Commentary Thread ***

Any record from 1980 - 1999 is eligible.

We use the release date from Wikipedia (if available). A first release date after 1980 or before 2000 in either the USA or UK is acceptable.

One album per artist per person. The usual rule applies: same artist in different bands, or band / solo is fine also - so picking a Jam and a Paul Weller record, or a Police and Sting record is fine.

No live recordings, cover records, greatest hits, or compilations (unless you can demonstrate they provide substantial original content i.e Purple Rain OST = OK, Pulp Fiction OST not OK)

Apart from that you must still want to listen to the record, and defend you selection on those grounds. Picking Thriller just because it shifted a gazillion units is not what we're looking for.

Let's keep the registration open until Friday and have a soft start over the weekend.

    DRAFT ORDER:

    Revo
    Lucky
    heyelander
    mjl
    Mancalledfoot
    DMT
    senorsheep
    Erik
    Stephen
    ElDiablo
    Swampdragon
    Controller J
    Pogues
    Fresno Bob
    JohnnyA

We doing any categories, years or otherwise...or just straight up take your favorite albums?

Should we limit the number of albums we can pick per artist? Frankly I'd just take a whole plethora of Pogues albums.

I do think we need to limit albums per artist, per drafter.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

Yeah agreed. One record per artist per person.

        sure, I'll go.

I've heard good things about the Pogues! Especially Alf.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

this isn't nearly as hard as when I misremembered that it was post-1990.

are we allowed to take "best of" albums? that seems kind of weasely. what about soundtracks? live albums?

I'd say no to "Best of Albums".

Soundtrack albums should be allowed, but I'd suggest limiting it to one per person.

                    yes - soundtracks
yes - one album per artist

Sorry guys, I'm gonna bail on this. I realized that while I have interest in 80s albums, it is extremely minimal in 90s albums and less than zero in 00s and 10s albums. And since all you guys are going to picks artsy-fartsy, how-have-you-never-heard-of-these type albums (not that there's anything wrong with that), my popular choices would just be an exercise in uselessness.

I'm trying to figure out the purpose here...there is such a massive draft pool that we could all just post lists. We already covered the noughties. I'm thinking we should either do 80s or 90s or both.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

In order to keep the pool a little compressed ... I would prefer:

                              No - Live albums (compilations)
                              No - Greatest Hits (compilations)
No - Soundtracks (compilations ... except when the artist has created almost all the music specifically for the soundtrack)
Yes - Max 1 pick per artist (and as with previous drafts ... a VU record is fine in addition to a Lou Reed record ... they would be considered separate entities. But Neil Young with Crazy Horse and Neil Young without Crazy Horse is still Neil Young)
