  • 30 Players That Should be Traded

With the hot stove season about to flame on, here are 30 players I think could be on the move:

- Ian Anderson, ATL - finds himself out of a rotation spot, and with Soroka probably back and the trade for Koby Allard, he's a luxury. He's still young, they can turn him into something more useful.

- Avasail Garcia, MIA - Miami has too many kids, let them play and ship Avasail out.

- Eduardo Escobar, NYM - with Baty taking his job, Escobar is a utility guy. But they already have Luis Guillorme, so Escobar is Escopendable.

- Patrick Wisdom, CHC - with the Cubs in full rebuild mode, now is the time to ship off Wisdom before he turns back into a pumpkin like Frank Schwindel did.

- Mike Moustakas, CIN - Just pay his salary and get rid of him, one way or another.

- Christian Yelich, MLW - it's quite evident he's no longer the MVP candidate he once was. With Sal Frelick & Joey Wiemer about ready, now's the time to turn him into some more prospects or useful parts. At $26m/per until '28, it's highly unlikely he's moved unless Milwaukee eats at least half the deal or trades him for another overpaid former star.

- Eric Lauer, MLW - he's a solid enough SP, and that's a strength of the Brew Crew. With the acquisition of Janson Junk, he's even more expendable.

- Keston Hiura, MLW - he's a whiff machine whose value is deteriorating rapidly. Time to send him away.

- Bryan Reynolds, PIT - as obvious as they come. Like Branch Rickey said, they can finish last with him or without him.

- Dylan Carlson, STL - the Cards have a lot of young talent, and Carlson is looking like the odd man out.

- Dakota Hudson, STL - he's not great, but many teams can use starters and he's currently no better than STL's SP6.

- Pavin Smith, ARZ - once a top prospect, now a middling bat on a team with a lot of exciting prospects. Some team can use him more.

- Ketel Marte, ARZ - he's as confounding as they come: some years he's great, some years he sucks. He's under contract until '27 at a pretty fair price, but it's unlikely he's moved.

- Christian Walker, ARZ - had an amazing season (36 HRs, 128 OPS+), but Arizona is overloaded with young talent and 1B is a place they may be able to shift one of them to.

- Randal Grichuk, COL - reasonably priced known commodity, but with the Rockies' acquisition of Nolan Jones, he can go.

- Tommy La Stella, SF - just go already

- Gleyber Torres, NYY - had a solid comback season, but the Yanks have a bunch of exciting prospects on the way and they need his spot. Turn him into some more prospects or fix the pen.

- Josh Donaldson, NYY - the “Bringer of Rain” is now more like the “Bringer of Pain”. He's still a solid defender, but his bat is now subpar in an offense that no longer needs him and in a city that's turned on him. East half his $23m remaining and send him packing.

- Aaron Hicks, NYY - another Yank who's worn out his welcome, the Yanks will need to eat some of that contract to ship him off, but he's of no further use to them, so they'll do it.

- Frankie Montas, NYY - he was their big mid-season acquisition, but he quickly turned into an unreliable disaster, and we all now how those turn out in pinstripes. Do a change of scenery trade for another pitcher (Urquidy? Hendricks?)

- Danny Jansen, TOR - they have Moreno & Kirk, Jansen is expendable.

- Cavan Biggio, TOR - lost his job mid-season, he would be of better use fetching prospects and getting a starting job on another team.

- Whit Merrifield, TOR - every category was down across the board for Whit, and his $6.75m salary in '23 would make him very appealing to another team. Cash him in for prospects.

- Hunter Dozier, KC - had a breakout season in 2019 that feels like it was 25 years ago. Has a reasonable contract, maybe someone would take a chance on him.

- Max Kepler, MIN - has fallen off a cliff since his breakout 2019 campaign. The Twins have a bunch of intriguing replacements in-house, so if the price is right, Kepler could be yours.

- Jo Adell, LAA - he badly needs a change of scenery, and with yesterday's acquisition of Hunter Renfroe, he no longer has a spot. Can still fetch a decent haul.

- Chris Flexen, SEA - middling SP on a team that doesn't need him

- Yonny Chirinos, TB - Tampa seemingly has a million Yonny Chirinos's around, you know, these 4-5 inning SP/BP hybrids who they churn out like hotcakes. If they can fill a need, send him off.

- Marco Gonzalez, SEA - he's as mediocre as they come -- ~4.00 ERA, ~1.30 WHIP, ~6.0 K/9. They have Kirby & Brash ready to replace him, and he has a reasonable contract, so what's he still doing here? It's like the final scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- “oh, you're still here? It's over. Go!”

- Kyle Hendricks, CHC - once won the NL ERA title, now's he's up there with the Patrick Corbins of the baseball world. At $14m, some team could use him as a rotation filler, and the Cubs are in full rebuild mode, so he can safely exit.

Does Junk even move the needle? I think of him as a AAAA type who could come up for a spot start, but not a guy that would change how you evaluate your staff.

      Agreed.

I think the Brewers wanted to shed salary.
