  • RHD's Latest Top 150 Roto Prospects ("Pre-Season" Edition)

Here's the latest list (previous list from 1/19/22). 16 new names.

The usual litany: I generally follow BA's prospect eligibility requirements, which are <=130 MLB AB or <=50 MLB IP. Unlike BA tho, amateurs, unsigned draftees and foreign players are eligible. Also, while BA has a different IP limit for relievers (30 IP?), relievers are eligible as long as they dont have >50 IP. As usual, this is for roto, not 'real' baseball, so pitchers are downgraded some, catchers downgraded somewhat (unless they're elite prospects and their bat will play at any position), and actual closers are upgraded a lot, SB guys who project to get playing time get upgraded some, and guys who either currently are or project to soon be regulars can get upgraded quite a bit. Position listed is their current primary one to the best of my knowledge (correct me if I'm wrong), not the one they're likely to end up at.

    Thanks for your work.

Would you be able to tier (maybe 4 levels)?

      Thanx for you response, harmon.

It's difficult to do definite tiers but in keeping this list, which I'm constantly updating and tweaking, I have in mind certain "cutoff points". I use this list in my fantasy drafts when I'm selecting my minor leaguers. That was the original purpose of the list. In particular, I've found that seldom do I select players that are below the 70-80 ranking on the list (my keeper leagues all have shallow farm systems). So in ranking the players on the list, I try not to place anyone above that "cutoff" that I dont feel I would realistically take in one of my current fantasy drafts. On this list, this cutoff point would be around #74, which is Bobby Miller.

For most lists, in general I think you can think of ranks 1-10 or so being the ultra-elite prospects which would correspond to 'A' level prospects. Ranks 11-30 or so would be the "A-minus" level prospects, 30-75 or so would be "B-plus" prospects and 76-125 or so would be the "B" prospects. That's why a list that goes past 100 is useful because not all of the "B" level prospects will fit on a top 100.

      Hope that helps.

Looking at your list at this point in time my cutoffs would be:

        1-14
        15 - 35
        36 - 74
        75+

So, I'm pretty close to your typical ranges. Good stuff.

My guesses on tiers here were very similar to yours

          1-14
          15-32
          33-70
          71+

I love to see that I traded away numbers 8, 9 and 17 last year in a failed attempt to pursue a title. Insert sad face here.

I have been offered Bobby Miller who would be $2 when he comes up. I believe he should start in AA. I would imagine him all season in the minors but the back end of the Dodger rotation with Gonsolin, Heaney possible return of Bauer are all question mark. How do you perceive him arriving in the majors?

I could print up a second place flag. It would be super sad, but I COULD do it.

Wait, who said anything about trophies? We were talking about flags. Try and keep up.

Dang it, I'm so far behind, I'm never getting a trophy-flag now.

                        Can I request half?

                          Would you rather have a trophy-flag or a flag-trophy?

Miller could be up later this year, but I think next year is more likely. Even next year the Dodger rotation could be tough to crack, even for an excellent prospect. I wouldnt expect much MLB production from Miller this year.
