Ok, this is random...the second time I've heard of Bemidji, Minnesota, in my life, and the first time was last week, in the Gil Thorp comic:

But I'm actually more interested in what took you to Santiago, Chile.

Yes, we've discussed this in VD threads before

Bonaire was a great dive. So much sea life

my mistake - apparently St. Lucia is further south than Hawaii (I should have known based on the burn I got there!)
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Down: ~120 feet below sea level scuba diving in several locations
          that's an interesting twist ...

          up: Lhasa, Tibet, 12,000 ft
          down: maybe 10 ft, snorkelling

I felt like every direction wasn't getting addressed

            My up was 12,441ft

              Ha, yes it is!

Up: I think "Dead Woman's Pass" on the Inca trail in Peru is slightly higher than Wheeler Peak, NM
Down: However low you get scuba diving in French Riviera - 50-60 feet? Although, I have been to Death Valley which I think is much further below sea level.

hmmm ... my down could include Carlsbad caverns ... it was 750 ft below the surface ... but I guess that's still way above sea level ...

My up was Colorado Mines Peak at 12,506 feet back when I was in junior high.

My down relative to the surface would also be Carlsbad Caverns. Relative to sea level, I think the lowest I have been is roughly -40 feet traveling on I-8 in the Imperial Valley in California, or possibly just slightly lower somewhere around Indio, California, where some of the roads get to -45 feet.

I think my up is Mount Haleakala in Maui. I think it's a little over 10,000 feet.

Not sure what my down would be.

                        In both cases, work.

I did a roadshow of school districts in Minnesota which began in Bemidji and worked my way down to the Twin Cities. Beautiful town and would go back to spend some time away from things.

Santiago Chile was AMAZING. Very similar to San Fran weather climate and had to go down to help close a big deal with some international schools.
