At the outset, I feel it needs to be made clear that the necessary BY data for "Option 2" is not in the spreadsheet. This draft option will only be supported in the spreadsheet from the next draft (VD16) as the hit_seas and pit_seas sheets need to be completely rebuilt.
The current Franchise info has been added to the hit_car and pit_car sheets, so there is no BY Franchise data in the spreadsheet. You will have to go to B-R.com (or some other reference source) on a player-by-player basis and manually find which years correspond with which Franchise. In addition you will have to calculate the Franchises codes for yourselves.
Option 1: One Eligible Franchise Per Player
You designate a Franchise when you pick a player (from the available Franchise options). That Franchise is then fixed for that player, and is off the table.
Pros:
Determinate: Franchises become like Decades. Once a player is designated as a Franchise that Franchise is off the table.
Easy to track selections with no manual requirements (apart from the initial "Rounds" entry: "pujolal01 2003 STL")
Full spreadsheet automation (error checking, available and taken franchises etc) with no manual requirements.
All Franchise information available and sortable.
Cons:
None, Spreadsheet is ready for this draft.
Option 2: Franchise is determined by the chosen BY
A players Franchise is determined by whatever BY you choose for that player.
Pros:
Determinate: Franchises become like Decades. Once a player is designated as a Franchise that Franchise is off the table.
Easy to track selections with no manual requirements (apart from the initial "Rounds" entry: "pujolal01 2003 STL")
Cons:
There is no BY Franchise data on the spreadsheet yet. You will have to manually find the BY Franchise information for each player.
You may also have to manually calculate which franchise a player belongs to. This can be very confusing for 19th and early 20th century players.
Apart from tracking, the spreadsheet cannot error check anything beyond someone picking a repeat Franchise. The spreadsheet cannot cross-check a chosen franchise with an eligible Franchise, because any Franchise they played for could be selected and that data is not present.
