We are seeing more and more and more crazy, extreme climate events. California officials just announced that they expect nearly ALL the salmon in the Sacramento River will die due to abnormally hot underwater conditions. Ferocious fires in California, extreme weather in Texas (what an unbelievable failure of leadership in that state, as an aside --- total embarassment), the Amazon now moving away from absorbing carbon to actually emitting it, and just recently a 130 degree temp reading in Death Valley, which is perhaps the highest in recorded history. We are seeing global warming unfold before our eyes and shit is not good at all.
More American children die by gunfire in a year than on-duty police officers and active duty military.

we had record shattering temperatures in the NW a few weeks back. And it happened in June which is usually a pretty mild month. This area is totally unprepared for extreme heat. And of course it is now super dry heading into fire season.

The heat wave from two weeks ago is now one of the deadliest weather-related events in Washington state history.

Things are going to continue to get bad, not all at once, but in ever-increasing spurts, and in more ways than most people can imagine. Much of what we will do in response to these events will be reactionary and too late. In Florida, I am confident the state will spends 10s of billions building sea walls and constantly building up an ever-eroding coastline to avoid half of that state from being under water in the next 50 years (an almost certainty, if nothing is done).

It is really depressing to think of the hardships that our children and their children, for generations to come, will face due to our inaction and short-sightedness. We have the ability to prevent much more of it than we are or will, and that is a tragedy. GITH's line about not caring about a forest until it is cut down sums it up. The efforts to make major changes in this area are just not enough, and the require a lot of resources and will that we simply do not have as each country that has not gotten to our level of consumption races to catch up, and we are unwilling to make any moves that might lead us to losing ground in that race.

Massive flooding in Germany, with river levels nearly doubling the "once in a century" highwater marks back from 2003. Terrifying pictures and videos coming from our friends overseas.

Bill Gates putting his money where his mouth is on global warming:

Bill Gates' TerraPower has chosen Kemmerer, Wyoming, a frontier-era coal town, as the site where the company will build its first advanced nuclear reactor.
