Hard to say, all are having good seasons. Maybe they play the game that the Dodgers did last year with starters coming up with random injuries to get extra rest during the year. Maybe they go to a true 6 man rotation...not the worst idea ever.

The 23-year-old right-hander was lifted after throwing 73 pitches over four scoreless innings. There should be an update soon from Miller Park in Milwaukee.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

my tv screen is small but i think he threw mostly 93mph and 94 sometimes most of the game. i like that he didn't really go after hitters with heat, but mostly nibbled around the edges. like he just did all that in the minors and first game up this year he was careful instead of overconfident. it is MIL after all. he looked better vs right handed hitters than left. he looked uncomfortable vs left handed hitters. he worked really quick (i don't care about speeding up the game) but he looked smooth, ready to throw the next pitch right away. every inning a batter had to step out of the box from not ready.

he got into small troubles sometimes but pitched out of it. i think he walked the left handed 8th batter to get to the pitcher batting with a man on 3rd. when the trainers suddenly came out it was a 92mph pitch. he made no motions of discomfort, and replays didn't show anything. it could just be that they wanted to check up, and use it as an excuse to talk to him. right afterwards his next pitches were 95, 96, or maybe 98 i couldn't tell, but they were harder. they replaced him with a pinch hitter and a runner on 3rd with one out, which didn't work.

i really don't know what to think. but it was MIL and they just got surprisingly shutdown by Wacha the previous night. so i expected them to come out swinging. on the few pitches that he did offer up as contact outs, they stayed in the park. so he wasn't looking to pitch to contact, but he looks like he could if he wanted to. but im a little worried that he might have some growing pains.

during the game they interviewed Wacha and he was great. they asked random questions like who's you're favorite player, and what pitcher on STL is the best hitter. the announcers were great. he said Miles Mikolas puts on an impressive batting practice. Wachas cool!

they got 2 calls during the game that was in STL's favor that were wrong. one of them got challenged and still wasn't overturned, and another wasn't challenged.

the STL catcher made an amazing play to throw out Cain stealing. technically didn't count as a CS as it was advancing on bad pitch. https://www.mlb.com/cardinals/video/...83?tid=8877482

"Significant" lat strain for Alex Reyes. Going for a second opinion. Doesn't sound good. Alex, we hardly knew ye.

So he misses 20 months, comes back to make 1 start (4 innings), and now he's out for another 10+ months.

He's been my David Dahl on the pitching side. Was so excited about both of these guys the last few years, sigh.

It's a shame, so much talent. Still, all pitchers are injuries waiting to happen; the human body was not meant to throw a baseball that hard.

i wonder in an alternate universe somewhere if the same thing happened to a porn star. we'd be saying things like...

Nully's post might be the greatest in RJ history on the Baseball Forum.
I'm just here for the baseball.
