This franchise has a unique puzzle to unlock.
That's amazing! I dont recall ever seeing a home-road split like this in any sport.

    • The Rockies are rumored to have expressed the most interest in signing Albert Pujols. If they need veteran leadership (isn’t that what Blackmon is supposed to provide?), offer him a coaching position. The PT needs to go toward developing the myriad number of young players they’ve yo-yo’d over the past several years.

Or make a splash and resign Story, plus add an impact FA hitter (Schwarber would have fun in Coors). Get creative and use a six man rotation that pitches no more than 4-5 IP per start in order to keep them fresh (everyone says pitching at that altitude is more physically taxing). Combine that with several high GB RPs and get them on a schedule (six RPs, two of which are scheduled to go two IP every third game/day). Plus have one setup guy and one closer. That’s 14 pitchers and 12 hitters which could work considering how many multi-position hitters they have (McMahon, Hampson, Rogers, etc.). Do something creative, a la Tampa…instead of expecting that Albert Pujols will really help their ballclub.

      • Heyman tweeted that the Rox were not in the mix for Pujols, so part of my rant was moot.

        • Well, the Rox are rumored to be signing Iglesias (https://twitter.com/hgomez27/status/...822231552?s=21) and signing Schebler to a minor league deal. Looks like they may block their players once again.

Hopefully these are depth signings, which would make sense. But given the Rox history, I don’t think it will be that simple.

          • Colome is such a typical awful Rockies signing. Robert Stephenson was really coming into his own there.

In an early NFBC 50 I used 3 later picks to "solidify" Rockies saves taking Estevez, Bard and Stephenson. No reason for the Rockies to sign a closer, right?

Oh well, I won't be tempted to use any of them, probably helping ERA and WHIP. I was plenty intrigued by Stephenson though.

              • Can't even count on them to move Colome at the trade deadline when they're hopelessly out of it.

                • Does anyone have an estimate for how PT shakes out for the Rox OF/DH now that they’ve signed Bryant? I think it projects as follows:

                  LF: Bryant >600PA
                  CF: Hilliard? >500PA
                  RF: Conor Joe? >500PA
                  DH: Blackmon? >600PA

                  4th OF: Tapia? ~300PA

Does this make sense or am I off base?

Those seem high and pretty much best case scenario for all of them. I suppose if Bryant gets 100 or so PA at 3B then maybe. Hampson also figures to be in the mix.

                    • Don't forget Garrett Hampson.

                      • What are the PT expectations for Hampson? Does he split time in CF with Hilliard? Maybe 450 PA for Hilliard and 250 PA for Hampson?

                        • Have to imagine that Hilliard will be on a very short leash.
More American children die by gunfire in a year than on-duty police officers and active duty military.

Not like Tapia has a long leash himself. If you compbine Tapia, Hilliard and Hampson shake it up in a blender, you still come out with basically the same player.

                            • Such a crapshoot there really. Hilliard and Joe could be anywhere from 200 to 500.

For OF only Hampson around 200/225.

Blackmon may drop off this year somewhat as he's getting up there in age. Without looking at his splits, he may become more of a platoon guy.

                              • That’s a fair point, but who replaces him? Hampson hasn’t lit the world on fire either, has he?

The Rox roster construction continually baffles me!
