Nationals sign Jamey Carroll to a minor league deal.

No, I do not know why. He used to be a versatile and decent defender who hit for a decent average and had some speed. The average and speed are gone now.

Detwiler to start the season in the bullpen according to Matt Williams today - so who has the edge between Roark and Jordan?

The fact that he hasn't ruled out Chris Young is concerning. Both Roark and Jordan could head to Syracuse to regular work maybe?

Apparently the yips are contagious over there on the left side of the infield.

Anyone know what's going on with Ian Desmond? He's been atrocious all year with little sign of turning things around at any point.

I think he must be dinged up. K rate is up 5 points from last year, GB% is up TEN points from last year, BABIP is down (but honestly, not atrocious... it's .276), and his line drive rate is 10.8% which has to be one of the worst in baseball. HR/FB isn't really down that much either. I'm worried the ground balls and the lack of line drives mean he is playing through something.

Maybe he's got an upper body injury where he can't drive the ball and thus the higher GB% and line drive rate. Although he did have a jack tonight so hopefully it's the sign of things to come.

So Bryce Harper -- I don't want to say he's anything close to a bust yet for his career, but is he really a Top 25 player next season based on talent alone? When will production win out over talent?

He's 21 years old...twentyone. And he's already got 44 MLB homers, and 30 steals to his credit...despite a whole lot of injuries and some reckless play. He's still a baby learning how to harness that tremendous talent. I saw a stat that Mike Trout was younger than something like 15 participants in the futures game, so Harper has to be younger than a fistful more than that.

We've been waiting and watching him for so long that we forget just how little this guy has played the game. I'll take him in the top 25 every year, because one year, look out, it's all going to come together.
